RJ MFG Supercharger kit Feeler...

If you're serious about the CARB kit you might want to see if you can get by with stock injectors. Don't worry about HP at that level, just pass smog.

If you're serious about the CARB kit you might want to see if you can get by with stock injectors. Don't worry about HP at that level, just pass smog. Put all the right parts in it (AtoA AIT etc.) and make upgradeable with injectors and a tune only. That way we wouldn't be buying injectors twice and we could buy the tuning stuff separately. Put back the smog tune when needed and then back to real HP. Personally, I'd be ok if you could keep it under 2 hours DIY to swap back and forth between HP and Smog. Over 4 hours gets into the pain threshold.

Been contemplating the engine swap route but that's way into the pain area. Not to mention storing the smog engine.

Dude, you can't go FI on stock injectors. No kit does this and is not a requirement of carb. Stillen has bigger injectors and is carb.

One of the main requirements of carb is that it be a complete turn key kit with tune and everything. It all has to be included to gain carb approval.

And 2 hours to install a full FI kit? Are you kidding?

Do the 35HR platforms use the same lower plenum?

Most aftermarket hoods I've seen don't have an OE fit. Gaps, corners sticking up too high, etc. I think I'd much rather modify a stock hood than pay for a new hood, plus shipping, removal, paint, install. Don't know how others feel, but just want to put that out there. Then again, I don't have the costs for each of these.

I had the stillen hood on my 350Z that was needed for the blower and i loved it. Fit was perfect and it was super light. Even if you cut your stock hood you will need to do all the above. Removal, paint, install and yes even shipping unless the day you sell your car you sell it with all the parts on it and take a big hit. If you sell the kit you will want to sell the hood with it most likely then you will need a new hood again. To mod your oem hood you still have to take it off, cut it up, do some bondo/fiberglass work on it to get the scoop to look halfway decent and then repaint it all. Unless you plan on literally cutting a hole in it and having a snout stick out, which would look terrible. Even by adding a scoop it is going to look like crap/ricer as it wont blend with the car at all.

The potential challenges about making a Whipple fit, begs the question: If RJ MFG set up a poll to help them decide which way to go, why didn't they go with the majority of the respondents? Not to take anything away from those who want the Whipple, but it certainly looks like a lot more involved to get one to fit...with questionable aesthetic results...than a kit with an OEM look. I think if the poll represented the whole potential SC market, rather than a thread that by its very nature attracted Whipple enthusiasts because of its suggestion, you'd see the results skewed even further towards Rotrex.

Sounds to me like RFG was going to go Whipple anyway, and just wanted to see how many others out there might be willing to purchase if they offered it.

Just sayin'...

So if everyone voted "I don't want a supercharger", then they should have just given up then?

They explained that they wanted a challenge. Kudos to them for trailblazing. They have not ruled out doing two kits either.

I wouldn't knock them for not following the poll results. For how small of a sample size that is, that poll is worthless to them. It is just proof of interest, and both kits have enough interest at this point.

Plus, there are other centrifugal options on the market. There's no positive displacement option.

Correct, if you want a Rotrex kit Gamma is still selling them (thought a bit higher price than GTM but they do ship & fulfill orders).

In another thread, I was told that Stillen was basically the only choice...that the Rotrex kits were (even post-GTM) sold by questionable sellers. As everyone knows, Stillen requires extensive add-ons and tuning to make it safe.

I hope that RJ goes with another kit, but that would require double the R&D. Are they really going to invest that much into a niche market anyway?

Main point is to make the start kit cheaper and not make people buy stuff twice. Like a flash from RJM and then have to go buy uprev. Same with the injectors, if you keep the maps the same, no need to flash. This is just an intermediary step to allow the kit to pass smog. Then you get your tuning SW and injectors and get your HP. Remap the injectors for smog when you need it. That way you don't buy anything twice. You also then swap between smog and HP setup with just swapping tunes. You need to make the smog kit stand-alone so you can sell it as a CARB legal setup. Maybe you could do it where you do the above and swap a pulley. A pulley is cheap enough to buy twice. To get CARB I think you have to demonstrate reduced emissions.

And it's 2 hours to swap between SMOG and HP. A tune swap is a couple of seconds, a pulley swap should be doable in 2 hours.

First let me state that we will be looking to do a CARB kit with aftermarket injectors. As stated earlier we will need to use the shortest injectors possible (not the same length as stock) as well as integrated fuel rails in order to fit the largest intercooler core possible.

Secondly, the poll was a way for us to gauge interest in another kit on the market. the choice was and is ultimately ours to make. There are more factors than just the number of votes on the poll in the forum. we have received calls and messages from outside the forum in support of the kit including some shops. Also the count is separated by 6 votes at this time and isn't that far off. So as it stands we will be doing the whipple kit first and if people still want to see a rotrex kit we will look at doing one of those as well. But I will say this. You guys aren't going to want a rotrex after this is launched

Thirdly, We have already started skinning a 350z HR hood onto a 370z hood as a fall back in case the unit looks like it wont fit. Also on another note we have designed a GT style hood that already has some of our employees thinking of selling their hoods for it. What we have designed is going to really impress a lot of you guys. Also remember we focus on quality parts and our prices reflect that. So keep that in mind if we have these hoods made they will be top notch and oem fitment.

As for those questioning our R&D costs and what we are investing into it is a business decision that the owner and partners have looked into and want to make. Trust us your gonna want this kit if your in the market for a SC'er, a stage 1 turbo kit and some stage 2 turbo kits... Also at the price point we are projecting your wallets are going to want it too. But there is a down side... your gonna be buying tires like a mother... hahaha

You'll probably need a CA test vehicle for your carb cert. Keep me in mind when the time comes!

That's a sweet manifold! Double heat exchangers and a twin screw all built in! Nice.
