I know you stated 600 whp but what do you feel the safe limit for a stock block is?

As shops and members continue to push their vehicles, the threshold for longterm reliable power may increase. But I have to agree with kdo2milger that around 500whp would be a good stopping point. Plus, 500whp on a street car that is relatively light-weight is a lot of power. On stock tires, in this climate, this car has traction issues even into third gear. Although I imagine a better tire set-up and different final drive would alleviate some of it.

Clint I see you guys used the Cobb Accessport for tuning or what there anything else used? as far as I know the Cobb AP does not yet support ignition timing changes. How were you guys able to use the AP unit to modify the needed changes to timing for when under boost??

I personally have a G37 and have been waiting for timing adjustment to work for months and have a customer with a 370z which just called me today which wants to tune his N/A car and frankly without being able to modify timing anything else is a waste of time! please be as descriptive as possible, I need some heavenly answer to brighten my day!

Chameleon, I know Clint is going to answer your questions for you, we've just been very busy at the shop. I wish I knew more about tuning and such to help you, but Clint and Mike are the most knowledgeable on that subject.

your right it was a typo on my part i meant 3:69's...

so no thoughts on steppin up to 3:90's maybe 4:00's

z sounds and looks amazing

In our experience with final drives, we actually go the opposite direction. A lot of Manual Trans TT 350Z guys will install automatic 350Z rears in their cars to lower the final drive from a 3.5 to a 3.2. With the lower ratio, the cars actually stay in boost longer, for a higher top end. The N/A road race/auto x 350Z customers usually step up to a 3.9 from Nismo, or Central 20 or whatever. Road race and auto x competition cars benefit from shorter gears, to get from apex to apex quicker. Street turbo Z owners generally like the longer gears better, because the added power from the turbochargers helps the car to REALLY get moving when you are on an open road.

We had great success working with the COBB AP (and COBB directly) with this 370ZTT. With the MAFS, the car drives flawlessly. The cobb software can drop the timing curve, but the ECU is very smart. So timing changes must be well matched - if the curve that you've put in is too aggressive, at points the ECU may adjust to be what is optimal for the vehicle. We tested extensively and experienced no knock, no limp modes, no codes (HFCs work wonders) and the car simply runs perfect (and moves out!)

I am not sure about the G37 however as it is different and we have not yet (but soon) tuned a twin turbo g37 with the COBB. We hard wired f-cons in the past.

The COBB AP really is a marvelous tool.

well that is just marvelous to hear, I knew cobb would finally get their together one day. now what version of the tuner software do you have? because unfortunately the version I have (1.7.3.2-11265 Build Date Sep 3 2009) isnt doing jack! I have tried everything you can think of to manipulate all ignition tables and the car shows no responce what so ever.

I have some experience with AEM, PowerFC, haltech, big stuff3, Hondata, Motec and find The cobb the trickiest to use because it does nothing.

so you must be working some magic! that i dont know about.
