Going FI with Stillen down under
New member from Sydney, Australia. Got my 2010 auto-7 Z about 6 months ago and am loving it so far. Have just ordered the Stillen tuner kit (in black ) as well as their trans cooler kit to keep my auto alive. Hoping that the kit arrives down under within the next few weeks.
I will be getting my installation and tune professionally done by a place called Pulse Racing here in Sydney who have a great reputation for building some beastly street cars. Since I am getting a professional installation and tune I was considering using that opportunity to throw in a few more things other than just the standard Stillen kit. I see a few of you guys are getting different injectors, plugs and going for the turbosmart dualport. Open to suggestions at this stage from guys already running this kit on how I can get the most out of it. Here are some pics of my Z as it currently is. Will keep this thread updated and let you guys know when I get my hands on the kit and when the installation gets underway. Mechanically the car is standard apart from the Invidia Gemini cat-back exhaust, still running stock cats. https://igcdn-photos-b-a.akamaihd.ne...MTA4MA%3D%3D.2 https://igcdn-photos-h-a.akamaihd.ne...NzQyMQ%3D%3D.2 |
Best advice I can give u for the Stillen kit is to go with the Air 2 Air kit upgrade
http://www.the370z.com/forced-induct...r-upgrade.html Stillen kit has a lot of cooling issues with its Air to Water set up...The A2A kit solves that and other issues like getting true "intake temps" which are post blower with the A2A design. It als9 gives you room to grow and upgrade on the power band side. |
Welcome and good luck. I think the kit already comes with fuel pump and injectors so you're good there. I run R35 GT-R OEM sparkplugs and they've worked fine. I'd probably go with high flow cats or test pipes. Throw some MCA coilovers on there and do a review on them for us? Lol

http://www.the370z.com/forced-induct...ml#post1796589 Others here claim that HFC would deliver results as long as you are doing a custom tune (which I am doing) and not doing the standard Stillen tune. At this stage I was planning on leaving the stock cats, but could be convinced otherwise. |

Shipping was a lot faster than I was expecting. Now the agonising wait until July 11th which is when I am booked in with Pulse Racing for installation and tuning

FYI. You may burn those cats out. Especially if you push the kit a little harder then the 8psi pulley. There are several guys that have blown out their stock cats using this kit. You will get mixed reviews on the HFC's. Some say they flow better so last longer, while others claim OEM cats are built to last xxx,xxx miles so hold up to more abuse. Either way, test pipes will keep you in the clear of any cat meltdowns.
Its a slippery slope. Cats on a supercharged car can last the entire term of ownership, or plug up on you in no time. |
my stock cats lasted about 5000 miles switched over to invidias, they blew up after 3000miles, at 8 psi. I wouldn't recommend anything but test pipes with this kit
|
Best of luck! Car is looking clean otherwise.

Check out Vlad147's thread on AU Zclub website ... he went Frozen Boost IC because the Stillen kit is marginal as soon as you move away from the baseline setup.
Whether the A2A suggestion is economic in terms of import costs to AU or whether you can take the idea and build it up with local components is one question to consider. Be careful about test pipes as you are facing into a $22K EPA fine if you are caught without cats and it is easier to get caught in NSW as you have an annual pink-slip check don't you - otherwise test pipes need to come off annually. |
Handed my car over to Pulse Racung this morning. Will post updates as I hear updates from the install / tune.

So what have you decided on cats? $22k is insano!! I'd run stocks since you can pick them up here for cheap and you have proof they hold longer.
|
Where did you see 22k??
Yeah decided to get the Invidia high flow cats and see how they go. picked them up fairly cheaply :) |

Here is a video that a friend of mine took as I drove away, was a fairly normal drive off, was not hammering it or anything. Absolutely loving the note the car produces

How's the zed holding up mate - any issues? and how much power does it make?
cheers |
Happy to say that it is still in one piece and going strong since the install. I have a fresh video of the car sitting on the dyno when I went in for my last service.

Brother,
I am so happy to see you rocking this kit! congrats, I been debating between this and AAM twin Turbos. the only issue I would run into with the AAM, I would need to rebuilt my trans for around 5k... |
Great to hear it's holding together! How much power is it making? Also, did you get the Frozenboost heat exchanger? Still on the original Stillen? Are the Invidia cats hold up? I have around 55K miles on mine with the stock cats and Frozenboost heat exchanger.
