Mounting Oil Cooler Behind IC vs. Wheel Well
I am in the middle of installing my supercharger. The instructions have the oil cooler placed in the wheel well. doing a quick mock up it appears I can put it in the normal location (in front of the condensor).
My brother's BP turbo kit has it in between the radiator and IC. So I know itīs a viable option as long as I can make it all fit. He doesn't have a CSF radiator (yet) like I do, but so far his oil and water temps seem to be fine, not sure a intake temps. He hasn't had a chance to push it in hot weather though. We have barely cracked the 80s in NC, so far. Anyway... Cons for in the wheel well are: -Have to make some extended hoses. Not a huge deal, but why spend money if you don't have to. -The biggest being the lack of airflow. So it needs a fan and vents in the fender liner, at a minimum. What would the cons of having it behind the IC be? This is what I have so far, just not sure how big of a concern they actually are -Less airflow to the radiator -More heat near the IC / heatsoak Thoughts? Where would you put it? |

I have my 34 row from Fast Intentions directly behind the IC and in front of the radiator. I live in Guam where it's 80-90*F tropical weather year round. There's a lot of stop and go traffic and I daily my car with spirited driving every now and then and hit the track every month....Oil and Coolant Temps have been good...Coolant temps get as high as 199*F and oil temps don't pass 200*F when I push the car hard or track it.

On my boosted G35 (supercharger, then twin turbo), I had my coolers in both locations that you're considering. The wheel well is the best location, provided you can get air flow to it. I don't know what bumper and/or ducting options you 370z guys have, but I can tell you from experience that you will have better temps if you can avoid putting heat exchangers in front of one another.

I have a 34 row setrab cooler behind the bumper under the driver side headlight. Wasn't able to fit it between the radiator and intercooler. I didn't route hoses or install a fan. I just vented the fender liner and removed the side plastic pieces in the front bumper. It still helped my engine temps quite a bit.

I mounted my oil cooler on drivers side in front of wheel well and then took a dremel and cut long slats into fender liner behind cooler to dissipate heat, can't even see the vents with wheel in place.

I am using the stock 370z bumper so air flow to the wheel wells is limited and there is also a supercharger oil cooler to contend with which mounts to that drivers side wheel well also. Ultimately I think I will have the most confidence in having the oil and SC coolers mounted in the wheel well with fans helping to cool them out of a vented fender liner. However I feel comfortable putting it together with the oil cooler behind the IC for now. The custom brackets will have to wait til after ZdayZ. |

You'll be fine....I'm in hot humid tropical weather and have been running this set up for a year....I know.someone here that ran it behind the wheel well and it ran hotter without fans....ended up relocating it to the front between the radiator and IC.

Both my oil coolers sit behind the Intercooler and I have never once had an issue...

I am curious if it will fit, it might be tight with how far back the SC intercooler sits versus most turbo setups. Also, I run mine under the driver side with no venting of the liner or fan and in Texas heat without issues.
If you get it to work, I would like to see some photos as mine is all torn up right now and might move it. Always prefer shorter lines if possible and if no negative with airflow.

Been busy lately, have all the parts minus fuel items I need.
Kozmic told me they were going to do ECUtek and would get me a tune & fuel item quote but every week I bug them they say next week. I just need to knock out the parts I have, SC, new piping, etc. and then figure out fuel afterwards.

I will be tackling it this weekend. I will post the outcome. If I can get it to work I am gonna sandwich it in there. If not I guess I will be making some extended lines

So you are mounting it behind your IC or somewhere else? I have mine in between the IC and Radiator (just like my previous setup and a few others) and there are no issues.
