Sticky tires for FI

Anyone recommend a good sticky set of tires for boosted Z's? I am running Hancook Ventus V12 now but are pretty much worthless as they spin through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I have Nismo and don't want to change tire size.

Chuck33079 03-12-2016 12:37 PM

RE-11s or PSS.

6mt370 03-12-2016 12:48 PM

Mickey thompsons or nitto nt05r. Any other tire is worthless.

Hotrodz 03-12-2016 02:54 PM

Just put RE -11'S on Thursday...305 and 265. They are pretty damn good. Nothing is going to hold first and second.

Everyone on this forum is going to tell you re-11 or pilot sports since everyone on the forum is reading and jumping on the same reviews, neither of which is a bad tire but If you're making decent power the 555r or nto5r as stated before are great for strait line power. I also like the toyo r888 but they do need a decent amount of heat to really stick

I guess the difference is if you have a toy car that only comes out to beat on or a car that sees some daily driving.

Hotrodz 03-12-2016 04:45 PM

Those tires are great but you will only 5 to 6k on the street. You will get 10 plus with RE -11'S. If you got the cash then r888's are awesome.

Oh and the Toyo's and Nitto's will cost you more for not much gained as a dd. It just depends on how much you want to shell out and how much performance you want knowing they are all the same from a stop.

Would 305s fit on rays wheels?was thinking 255 f,295 r on my rays

Hotrodz 03-12-2016 05:55 PM

305 for rears and 265 uo from if you are on Nismo or Sport wheels!

I have came to find out its really outside temp dependant. In Denver you can't beat r888s from April to September. They, as well as mt street comp, suck in below 60* weather.

GrooveStyle 03-12-2016 08:07 PM

Is anyone running RE71r's? I was thinking I would replace my oem tires with a set of those this spring...

stefonelee 03-12-2016 08:25 PM

I'm running re71s right now. They are amazing. Tremendous grip very pricey but worth it. I'm n/a right now and waiting for the rest of my boosted performance kit to show up to see how they hold up. If they do well I'd gladly pay for them again without hesitation. I've driven on them in 40 degree weather and the grip still is there and have not had any issues.

305/30/19 and 265/40/19 is this correct?

Hotrodz 03-12-2016 10:55 PM

265/35 will make the diameter of the front and rear tiers pretty much equal.

OK cool thanks. Ordering some re-11 Monday and starting to put on BP kit next week. Need to get that power to the ground:driving:

ResIpsa 03-13-2016 07:34 AM

Hold that order. I have run all these tires and the NT01's and trip eights (r888) are in a completely different league from the RE-11's. On a two-mile road course they're probably worth 4 or 5 seconds per lap.

The RE-11's are a Street Tire plain and simple. Only a "forum expert" would say there comparable. Trust me, the NT01's will put a huge smile on your face even when they're cold.

... and a huge frown when you careen off the road in the rain:tup:

It's hard to tell what OP wants. Straight line traction and "track" traction will use different tires. Drag radials vs track tires are completely different. Nt01s will not hold 500-600whp.

Hotrodz 03-13-2016 08:39 AM

Exactly, my recommendation was simply based on dd and cost. If the OP is looking for track tires then an R compound is better for sure!

TcRocket 03-13-2016 12:45 PM

Yes the car is my weekend driver. So I want good gripping tires for Street use that will last. I know R compounds are stupid sticky but wear quite fast compared to re-11s. However I will be in the market for another set of rear wheels and tires for the drag strip this summer. Full slicks then....:)

Drew303 03-13-2016 03:37 PM

Im putting down 503 at the wheels, straight line grip is main priority but still enjoy spirited mountain driving occasionally.

G37Some 03-13-2016 06:02 PM

bridgestone potenza re-71r outperforms the re-11s from what ive read.

nitto nt05 or nt01 is a good choice that can be used on the street but i think both wear pretty fast.

Rusty 03-13-2016 06:42 PM

Remember there is a trade off on tires. The stickier the tire, the less mileage. The more mileage, the less sticky the tire. And remember about temperature too.

ResIpsa 03-14-2016 04:54 PM

With that in mind RE71 might be the best compromise.

Hotrodz 03-14-2016 05:16 PM

I seriously consider it but they don't come in 305. Need some beef. Really need to get another set of wheels for some R compound tires!

Come on, be a baller. Get some Forgelines. :D

G37Some 03-15-2016 07:15 PM

they do come in 285/35/19 though. compound will make a bigger difference in grip than width

bullitt5897 03-15-2016 07:20 PM

Toyo R888s have worked great for me! I am actually selling my current setup to go wider on tires. Dropping down to 19's so I can run 345 R888s... So sticky and worth it... Just be confident in your driving in the rain...

I'm semi local to you and having re-11's installed today. Hit me up if you want to see them on the car in person.

how bad is the life span on the R888? was thinking about switching from RE-11's to the 888 to try them out.

AntiVenom 03-16-2016 09:55 AM

i went with Michelin Sport Cup. i don't DD my car, so i didnt worry too much about the wet weather traction. i am installing my SC as we speak so I can let you know what my impressions are. My brother has a BP turbo Z and he went 325 RE11s. so i should also be able to give a *somewhat* apples to apples comparison of the two; since the expected HP is about the same (that BP turbo makes a bit more torque, and also has the turbo spool effect which as we all know makes for different traction issues).

known downsides to the sport cups.
-tire life
-wet weather traction

Don't you DD your Z during the summer?

If so you will heat cycle those R888s too many times pretty quick.

that was my follow up question. way to ruin it lol

and yes i DD the car in the warm months here soooo march/april-oct/nov. typically i put anywhere from 10-13k miles a year on the car.

Streetz 03-16-2016 10:11 AM

I run Toyo TQ's, they are the same compound as R888's but have a softer side wall. They only come in a few sizes, I run the 313/35/18 but the actual width is more like a 295 or 305 ish. I usually get 7-8k miles out of them.

For more traction I would do the whole SPL catalog in the rear suspension. All the new mustang guys are swapping out EVERY bushing in there IRS for solid stuff and there results are pretty wild. I've seen 60' times around 1.2-1.4 posted up on the forum. I haven't seen to many people in the z community do this yet.
