Famous last words.

Sounds like you got a few quality answers OP, its unfortunate some of the comments provide no useful input other than to cause a stir Hopefully your tests come back with good results and we see you on a boosted list somewhere

Let's be real here. If I had this much at the age of 20 I would living in my own house and sending my GTR off to alpha to be built for 1000+ whp. I have the cash to pay for the kit and install, and $2000 saved up just in case motor blows up, although with 450 hp I don't see this happening. Maybe I'll turn down even more and run like 425 hp until the car is paid off. The motor blowing will always be on the back of mind but there are lots of people running more than 500 whp with no issues.

Just trying to be real with the guy. Do you guys know anyone who went to 400 and stayed there with a turbo kit when it's just so easy to turn up the boost and have more fun?

Go look at the boosted sticky. There is just one guy under 400 and on single the next is 445. I also bet it's not up to date.

No joking in this thread guys.

Lol, jwick is just trying to give you some advice because others have put their lives into a tail spin chasing boosted dreams. The other thing is once you start with the modding it will only lead to more spending to keep things safe and provide more performance. Building a boosted car is much different than just buying an oem boosted car and getting some bolt ons and a tune.

Lol, I only wanted 500whp when I started now I'm over 600whp!!! You will want more or you would just stay NA.

When I first started modding a car it was a Mitsubishi Eclipse ....all I wanted was a cold air intake ......... Well after a stage one turbo kit ......blew the motor ...car in shop for 6 months getting engine forged and rebuild .....before it was over I was at a stage 5 kit at 27lb boost car was undrivable as a dd......sooooo. Sold it bought a 350z ....famous last words here..." I don't want to boost it I'll just put a nitrous kit on for when I wanna play "......3 month later ordered turbo kit for it .....then decided to get a new car ....in comes the 370 nismo......famous last words here...." I don't want to boost it ...so I'll get the nismo model ..... Ordered the supercharger kit with 2500 miles on the car ............car modding is extremely addictive .....there is never a end to it .....btw after the supercharger famous last words here I'm done with car modding this will be my last car I build .....lol the new vettes look nice

Okay fine fine I'll pay off the loan on the car first and then I'll save up again for turbo. The wait continues, next fall!

Do what you want! You know your situation...just make a plan and stick to it. These non boosted guys are just jelly that your going for it and they haven't.

If everyone waited until it was a good financial time to mod their car, no mods would ever be done.

I know what these guys are all saying, and part of me knows they are right.

But, at that same time. If you feel like you have the self restraint (Many dont) these cars at 400-450 are still AMAZING, and on a conservative tune will run for a very long time.

You could do what I'm doing, the worlds slowest turbo build. I'm buying all the supporting mods first and then will spring for the turbos.

No thy self...I don't have any restaint when it comes to my ride. Hell, I have 55 gallon drum of e85 in my garage and I drive 110 miles one way with six 5 gallon cans twice a month to get e85 and keep the drum full so I don't have burn 91 octane. Daleane is right, 400 to 450 will be a lot of fun no doubt but nowing you can have more and be safe too with little to additional cost...well good luck with that.

Also, if you decide I like the advise above, buy the supporting mods first then if you got to back out it doesn't hurt as bad. But regardless of if you do all right now, in steps or later...don't try and do it on the cheap. Build it right you won't have to suffer through what most the folks here are warning about.

There's some great advice for you, OP. Ie, get your ducks in a row first and then worry about your big-boy toys.

But I know I wouldn't have listened to such sage advice when I was 20 yo. As others have mentioned, there is nothing wrong with using a "well broken in" engine as long as it is still in good shape. Just remember to stash away enough money for major repairs in case the feces hits the fan (you need to do that any time you go to FI).
