I never thought of doing that. Good idea to see how your heat soak it taking hold. It should rise when the hood is down. Crazy that it isn't getting warm after that air is going past it. That little manifold cooler just cant pull out the heat.

(Rough temps from memory) Tick over ambient 12.8C - water reservoir WR) plenum 22C Load Plenum temps raise gradually to 35C@ full chat (gauge temp), ECU temp reads 45C (faster sensor) During this the WR stays @12.8C until around 6000rpm and then I saw it raise steadily (12.9C, 13C, 13.1C) over the rest of the rpm range (say 3-4 seconds). I found this quite encouraging. Real test will be the road test with the hood down and the final test the tuner does on the rollers with the hood down. So with the ECU reading temps from the plenum and with the knock sensor detection enabled (throws a EML if detected) I'm hooping it wont self implode . Figures, hit 470bhp but turned back a little to 452bhp. |

I have the car back now and this morning attempted to video the temps on a run to work.
It seemed that every car was on the road and I was unable to really get any deceit footage (7.5 mins of nothing much lol and I sound really bad on video). I will of course attempt again. I may attach just to share the pain though......... |

Thnx for the vid and sharing Rep points given. ...good to see the results....temps rise quick at WOT but ur recovery is pretty quick too....Curious to see how the temps will hold when being driven hard for an extended period.

Well. I guess your motor is safe on a cold day when not in boost with the w2a..lol.. Cool gauge setup though.
Need those wot pulls to make sense of this monitoring. You going to a track for that?

I had a little play this morning on the way to work as we have some fairly quiet country roads.
Excuse some of the expletives as I thought I was going a rally cross at one point. You can see that the temps rise very quick. Its know wonder these motors blow using the MAFs pre charge. I really need to get to a track now and see how it holds up after 20 mins. I also took a picture of the temps after 1 hour of the car sitting in the carpark (ignition off), they do drop fairly quick though, but then I've added a fan to the back of the Frozenboost to pull air whilst stationary. Great Vid...Rep points given once again ....Those back roads are rough man.....In the beginning of the vid ur car ate it hard on a bump..... I also said "F*** Me" when u hit it....
On ur run it looks like 44*C was as high as it got in the Plenum....ur temp after sitting one hour in traffic is crazy too.....but ur recovery time is quick as well....are these the highest you've seen the temps under full load and when in traffic?

That's the highest I've seen it, which was about the same during tunning. I need to do some extended testing (20 mins) to really get a feel for it. The pic was after 1hr in the car park ignition off, so full engine soak. In traffic ive not see it reach above 30*C. Ive edited the post to make this clear. I'm really glad I put the gauge in and even more so that the ECU uses that temp for advancement. Last edited by blobbish; 03-21-2016 at 10:10 AM. |

It's going to be interesting to compare this data to Swiss's when his car is done.
blobbish, I know you upgraded to the Frozenboost, but are you on the stock Stillen pump or did you upgrade like Swiss?

I'm on the stock pump. I'm interested in seeing what benefits Swiss can get from it, but looking at the video you can see the water temps climbing as the intake temps rise and once you step off of WOT they drop quickly. So the current pump seems to be working well.
My only concern would be the worry that flow would be so high that the efficiency of the rad would be compromised. I'm not sure if Swiss is monitoring water temps. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |
