$2500 is way too much for just the kit. I'd say 10-12 hrs for a professional with a lift. At the quoted labor rate of $150 would be $1,500-1,800.

Edit - $2,500 is more reasonable if they are doing the clutch/CSC/CMC, still high, but reasonable.

I highly recommend you get a mechanically inclined buddy to help you and knock the install out in your garage. You are stepping into the FI world and having installed the kit yourself is going to help you tremendously with troubleshooting down the road.

He'll, if the Z is your dd, I bet you can rent a car fir a week and still be on top $ wise. Imagine paying $2500 for the installations then something happens later on. How muchdo you think it will cost to fix it at said shop. Look at all the help you got in this one thread. If you get stuck. You just post and will probably get the answer in a few hours.

And I've helped a bunch of members during their install. I'm more than willing to give my contact info via PM if I can provide assistance during install.

I have answered/provided clarity through many pm's and emails for those doing an install themselves. The kit is simple to install...and the only reason a shop would quote that much is if they don't know that.

The hardest part of it is the removal of test pipes or OEM converters. Some will get stuck on the oil pan removal, but it is mostly due to not applying enough force to break the RTV seal.

DIY the only way. Learn and understand exactly what your car is taking on. Sasha has done all the thinking here and made it very straight forward from what I see. I will do DIY. And I don't trust most shops. They don't take care of it like you will when it's your own. Attention to detail. Just my .02

Since we have not installed that system yet, I would probably quote it between 1250-1750 for the first one, depending on what additional/supporting modifications were included, such as a clutch, or gauges/electronics. After that first one we would have the time recorded and the rate could change for future installs if it takes longer than we expected.

thanks guys, that was the plan. I was going to install this kit with my brother, but he is not around for about six months and I have a fair amout of work coming up. I will look at the pdf and maybe I will give it a go. Is anyone around the CT area? we could do the install at my house I should have all the tools needed. I did try the multi quote not sure if it work or missed anyone.

Still hemming and hawing about the gauges too, i like the innvoate gauges, but the new GReddy are right around the corner, and i really like the gauge with the oil temp the pressure and the boost.

I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet, but are there any issues with ground clearance? Any chance of snagging the turbo or other piping on speed bumps?

Also, is the set-up/fitment any different ont he NISMO vs. non-NISMO?

I've not heard any clearance issues on a Z. I'm dropped on eibachs and I do have some clearance issues but is the down pipe/exhaust mating flange. I have a G with probably a foot more length between wheels so I think mine is more high centering.

Also the turbo is the lowest point. The manifold passing under the tranny is but I don't think Zs should have an issue.

If you are keeping the stock nismo exhaust you'll need to have the downpipe custom fabed to mate up since the y-pipe on a nismo is double flanged at the mid-pipe.

I've already got a Fast Intentions exhaust system installed. Would that require any custom work?

It shouldn't but I'd call Tony and ask them if their lead pipes are the same for both nismo and non-nismo.

Or just PM them on here.

Edit - easier way would be just to ask them if there's any difference between exhausts for each type.

Ground clearance you ask? I made this video long ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RGws1UCsw0

That video is at stock NISMO height.

I took these measurement and posted them in a thread a good while back. The measurement should be the same.

"measurement from the front using a square, the front lip is 6'' off the ground. From there, the plastic cover slowly dips lower. At about 1ft back from the front of the lip; I can stick a 2x4 standing on the high side with about 1' clearance before I hit anything. "

This is the thread I posted it in.
Simple nismo question

Sasha, thanks for the 1.32 AR advice, here are the results (I think the numbers are also better because of 3,5" downpipe but still 1,32 ar is better for me with no lag difference!):

What is the "KM" measure? Not familiar with that at all, so I am not sure what it converts to in terms of HP.

Thank you for sharing, I figured spool would not change but you would notice a better top end. I am sure that thing is a beast at 680 ft/tq.
