Default Need some suggestions on engine build

Hey guys, as some of you know, my chit blew up and I'll be rebuilding. I plan on shooting for around 700whp on pump gas (93). I need some input about rods. I was pretty set on the Carillos, but I have seen a couple of high hp builds on here using K1 Rods without any issue. My only concern with them is that they use ARP 2000 rod bolts. The Carillo use WMC 3/8, which are supposedly better. The Eagle rods also use ARP 2000's. The K1 are considerably less money than the Carillos, and I could easily use the money saved on other components for the build.

Does anyone know of any aftermarket rod failures on our cars? Someone on the 350z forums had an issue with their Eagles using ARP 2000 and stared that the rod bolts were the issue, not the rod itself. Any input is greatly appreciated as I plan on ordering them as soon as I make my mind up.

Do you plan to make more than 700 down the line?

We use Carillo's in pretty much all our VQ builds unless the customer for some reason refuses to.

Who will be building the engine? I always tell people to consult with the machinist and engine assembler to see what they prefer to work with as that can play a big role.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you are looking for any specific info, or if you are still on the hunt for someone to build it I would be more than happy to help you out with information on our engine program.

I plan on 700. If we ever get e85 more readily available where I am, ill shoot for 800 or what ever ill make out at. Whichever comes first.

After doing a lot of poking around on the Google, it seems that Eagle once got a bad batch of ARP 2000 rod bolts, which is supposedly where all of this doubt is coming from. It also appears that ARP doesn't make L19 or stronger bolts in the bolt pattern that some of our aftermarket rods use (3/8 head, 5/16 thread pattern), which is odd to me. I called Eagle this morning since they are local, and picked their brain. I asked what their rods were rated for yada yada yada, and after some conversation the sales rep said something about an upgrade that would support more power than the rods with the ARP 2000's. However this is the same exact rod, with different bolts, yet costs a good bit more at $1194 MSRP. That leads me to believe that the bolts are in fact the weak points in the rods. This is all speculation as I'm no engineer lol.

Anyway, I kind of got off topic. Im probably going to go ahead and get Carillo Super A Beams. I have a guy that is getting me a killer deal on those and Wiseco pistons, and Id rather have the peace of mind without worrying with whether or not the corner I cut is going to come back and kick me in the @$$ lol. As far as builder, I have a local machine shop that will be doing the work. The machinist there does some machining for some Porsche race cars and championship Miatas. I havent decided if I want to let them assemble it, or do it myself. Im a big proponent of DIY that way if something messes up, Im the only one to blame. Not necessarily for money reasons, especially since ill be buying some special tools to make sure its all done properly.

However, after all of that said, I'm not closed minded enough not to entertain your offer. Ill shoot you a PM.

I know I sound crazy to some of you worrying about rod bolts lol, but Im pretty sure a rod bolt failure is what caused my engine to die. You can't be too cautious. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on this motor and the whole thing turn to trash due to a bad rod bolt.
