CSF radiator enough for GxxxxA supercharger on the track?
Hi all,
In the next week or so I am installing a GxxxxA (they who shall not be named) supercharger on my Z. I currently have a CSF triple pass radiator, 34 row oil cooler, baffled high capacity oil pan and a vented hood. However I still have a concern about cooling on track days. Maybe I am just paranoid but I like keeping things as frosty as possible under. I don't plan on any mid-summer track events and will likely only do 2 HPDE events per year, maybe 3. However I have been considering bumping up to the GxxxxA radiator and fan setup to placate the above mentioned paranoia. Is there extra cooling to be had from their kit based on the design or real world experience? I read some old articles but couldn't find any reviews of FI cars on the track with either the CSF triple pass or GxxxxA radiators. I know the price of the GxxxxA kit is daunting but if it would give an extra 5-10 degrees, or better said maintain temps for an extra 5-10 minutes so I can finish a session comfortably, I am willing to pay the premium. However if the forum consensus is that the CSF is just fine I have a list of mods that extra cash could go to. Also I know some will be tempted to mention a more open front end but I'd really prefer to work with the factory front. I plan on pulling the grill out to help a bit. I prefer the factory look. Even the hood will only be fitted for track days. Thanks! |

I wouldn't look at upgrading to their radiator. I would look at running a 2nd 34 row oil cooler if you run a brisk pace. That would be money more effectively spent.

Make sure your tuner edits the fan tables when you get your tune, and you should be ok with the CSF, especially if you run water+water wetter instead of a coolant mix.

One thing to consider for track use is having enough cooling power but you also need to vent that hot air that is generated.
Vented hood, fender liners, etc so any air brought in and used and is not heated will need to be pushed out quickly.

yea, definitely. i have an amuse style hood for track days, and was planning on venting the fender liners.
the fender lining venting was on my list because, one of my concerns is around the oil cooler(s) being tucked in without airflow. the plan is to use a fan and vent the hell out of the fender liner. i think running dual coolers will help that out. any value in upgrading the factory radiator fans to SPAL fans or something similar? lowering the temp of activation is definitely in the plans either way. I added a spal fan to my oil cooler since its in front of the inter cooler. The temp switch turns it on when oil temp hits 210. Works like a charm.

Do you mean radiator? Don't think iv ever seen a oil cooler mounted in front of a intercooler.

My old setup had oil coolers in front of the intercooler, but that's because GTM/Gammas twin intercooler setup sits close to the radiator, enough to keep the stock crash bar so there's no room.

Derp. Yeah, it's behind the intercooler and in front of the radiator.

Make sure you swap out the CSF drain plugs with something better. They are too soft and seize in the drains. Getting better drain plug washers as well will save you tons of headache.
