Ha, yeah. Broke engine #2. The first one I understand, but this one I had turned down to 600. I guess it's time for a built engine.

What were you using for a fuel system? Certainly not a big surprise for it to let go in the mid 700s although I would have expected it to go longer. But to lose a second at 600, I wonder if theres something else going on that took out both of them rather than just too much power. Mind sharing your ignition timing figures?

The fuel system is a single 485 with a jms booster. -8 feed which "y" and. -6 feeds each rail, your feed to return conversion and rails, aeromotive regulator, and ID1700's with 60psi base fuel pressure.

I'm wondering the same thing and going to do some digging. The second engine didn't blow up like the first, I think I caught it before it got bad. I think it's bending rods. It started out you could hear a cylinder down on compression when cranking and had a noise like a rod tick at about 3krpm. By the time I got it back to Dallas, it lost most compression in a cylinder.

I'm not sure about the timing. That would be a question for Rob.

(scrolling through this thread... look at mrcox "drives" to left of post... 05 prius)

sorry just found it hilarious, from one extreme to the other!

sorry to hear 2 motors popped, thats quite the financial burden but at least you have the means to do a lot of the labor yourself.

GL on #3 !

Awww -_-

I'm daily driving mine at 550-600 on pump gas, no problems. Had it at 700 on E70 for a week, granted didn't do a ton of crazy stuff at that power level since it was just tire fire on the stock tire back then.

Sucks with the bad luck...

It is what it is and apart of the game. I bought two engines when the first let go so I have a spare.

Hopefully I'll get them pulled apart soon and figure out what is going on while I wait for pistons and rods to be made.

Update:

The second engine bent one rod and broke two ring lands so they are the weak part above 650 on the stock engine. I still haven't taken apart the first engine which broke bad.

I kept the car, installed a third stock engine for now, and now working on bring some new parts to the market. Manley will now be making a rods and pistons for the VQ37 and hopefully soon I'll have a full stand alone working on the 370z. I've been working with Syvecs and it pretty close.

I also switched the drag radials out for 28/10.5w-15 Mickey Thompson ET Drags, used the spare wheel and some new 18" M&H front runners to make skinnies up front, ordered a set of Driveshaft Shop axles, and going to try a custom rear suspension to see if I can get the car down the track and set a new record.

Are you going to be running a motec? After they get your car running on the standalone, will this be a kit or still a 1 off purchase? I'm interested in a standalone myself been I was quoted 200 hours to rewrite the codes.

I've been working with Syvecs for about two years to get this done but it is finally a reality. My car runs on a full standalone ecu with both body and vvel can bus.

Its not tuned yet and will still be a while before this kit is released but the hard part is done.
