I've always wanted to do a build like this. It's been a dream since I was a teenager and swapped the motor on my '87 RX-7 Turbo. That car never really ran properly and I had to sell it to get something reliable in college... I am older and smarter now (with slightly deeper pockets), and I just wanted to build a nice, powerful, street car that I could really enjoy. That is why I am generally averse to things like lightened flywheels and 6-puck clutches - I am after a fast, factory feeling street car and anything that harms driveability has to be well thought out in my eyes... Since the full face clutch holds the power and will be the easiest to drive, I don't mind giving up flat-foot shifting and burnouts since those are not things I was ever really in to anyway. Make sense?

Right on, there are plenty of folks that just want feel the power and play a little when they want too. And I totally get building your own vs just buying it. According to my wife im in total retard mode when it comes to the Z....she is pretty much right. Anyway, I'm glad you have posted up on the forum. Your journey will help others out as well.

My kit has arrived! WOOOOOP!
I don't do burnouts or flat foot shift either and the full face disk has done everything I've asked if it.

The price of their clutch/flywheel setup is pretty appealing. I got: Z1 Full Face clutch and flywheel combo Redline MT-85 Motul DOT4 GTR Spark Plugs Z1 Hoodie Looking forward to feeling my tires slip instead of the clutch!

You'll be happy with the Z1 clutch.
I didn't see it in your list but you need either the ZSpeed HD CSC or the Z1 elimination kit. Don't waste the labor money by not ditching the OEM CSC cuz it WILL fail on you. Last edited by jwick; 01-08-2016 at 11:25 PM. |

One more thing! Jason from Gamma sent me a little package with all the parts that were missing from the kit. I got the abrasion resistant power steering lines, and spacers/hardware for mounting the crash bar properly. Appreciate that! I have to give a shout out to Gamma for setting up such excellent tech support with Jason. Could not have finished the install without him.

Hah! I'm just sneaky.....
and for the record, I've done rear diff bushings on my Z and a buddy's HR 350z. Not bad if you have the right process... it involves a sawzall, a drill, some rented hand tools from your friendly neighborhood auto parts store, and some hardware... Followed the DIY on here and it worked out ok. If you're gonna farm out the clutch install, might as well pay for the diff too tho I guess. In my opinion, after you've installed this kit, everything else is pretty simple... yeah, and +1 for Jason at Gamma. Jayhovah told me about him and since we've been in contact, Jason's been really helpful... |

I seriously question Gamma's decision sending any turnkey kit out without including a cooler plug. Nice score on the CSC! |

Got my clutch and flywheel installed! Feel great! I need to adjust the pedal a little bit as the engagement feels a bit low to me, but all in all everything seems good. I paid the mechanic and extra hour to check over the installation and he also said we did a great job so I was happy with that. The only thing he didn't like is a hose that Gamma cut a little too long so it's kind of pushed up against the chassis. We felt the same way, but after we got it on we couldn't get it back off (the mechanic likened it to a chinese finger trap) and it wasn't bad enough that we felt the need to cut it off. It has a heat wrapping around it, so if rubbing becomes and issue I should notice during maintenance.
