I'm looking at putting something togather. Starting to look at turbos now.. what do you think of a single GT37 fast spool and should get to 500whp (I think) was looking at the GT40 but i think that will spool to late. I want to hit full boost by 3500rpm

Have you mapped out a plumbing scheme? Routing the inlet plumbing from the turbo to the TBs looks difficult...splitting them off into two, etc.

I was thinking about a vertical flow intercooler with 2 inlets at the top going into 1 on the bottom. Using the routing that the stillen Gen3 intakes use to get infront of the radiator.
Kinda like this pic. but turn it upside down and add another outlet for the 2nd TB.

Well I am following your posts from now on Brazil cause' I'm up in Muncie and would love to hear some updates from you if you go through with all of this... I love how your talkin' full boost at 3500..... I'm still somewhat new to the whole turbo world...Do you have any ideas on how much whp you'd be shooting for?

StillenZ 12-03-2009 10:19 PM

If I went this route or a similar direction (ie..Turbo), would my Stillen headers be useless?

-Might be a dumb question.. my bad if so.

I'm looking for a cheapest way to get 500whp with F.I.

And I'm an hour north of you!!! So my thoughts on this are... I like to be unique therefore getting the same exact turbo as someone else nearby and knowing it would usually tear me up lol, but on the other hand... If one has issues at least there is someone nearby who could possibly relate/troubleshoot/have a fix already...

Don't know what our thinking about all this, but I would definitely like to stay updated on this one... I think I am pretty much down to an idea like this or supercharger...

Edit: LOL, the whole reason I quoted you was because I agree 100% with your comment. I really want some reliability though. I don't want a car that's always in the damn shop.

One reason I like this remote turbo idea also is because of ease to work on.. if there is a problem with a turbo or one of the lines or I/C pipes/clamps. They are all with reach. Everthing can be done with a floor jack. I would hate to blow a turbo and have to pay someone to pull the engine just to change turbos. I also like the idea of being able to switch to n/a again within a few hrs if need be.
If this dont pan out I'll probably go S/C.. Im just not a huge fan of'em

Everything that you just said pretty much wraps up all of my thoughts on this!..

On the STS, they route the oil back up to the front...I've read things about installing a light to go off if oil flow back to the front stops... Do you plan on doing anything like this?

Stillen headers are a +1 for turbo in the back. Especially stainles and heat wrapped to keep the temps up to the turbo and keep the heat away from the intake tube running to the front of the car. I've seen mid mounts where the turbo is near the transmission and they spool just like a regular TT setup my wan't to think about that. OEM's are starting to run midmounts on newer deisel vehicles now too. GT37 is a nice choice just make sure you map it out and if you're looking for quick spool get the lowest A/R you can. Mid mount would help with turbo drainage too. Then just run 3.5" or 4" all the way back and have it exit out the butthole.

Brazil, any reason you aren't doing twins? Is it a matter of cost?

Thanks for the info on the Stillen headers... I was afraid that a supercharger would be more beneficial. I guess either way I can just try to sell whatever after market parts I dont use.

And BRAZIL... I'm with you all the way buddy, but really want you to answer the guys question on why you chose single instead of twin. I know I have said it a thousand times now but on 2 guys and a garage sts turbo (youtube), they only use one turbo and get some serious hp out of it. Can you tell me your thoughts on single vs twin????

Zguy 12-04-2009 12:22 PM

its possible that 2 smaller twins will spool faster.... maybe 2 gt25's .... I think they are good for about 300 or 400 hp each... the single may be spooled up at 3k but the 2 smaller turboes may be spooled at 2700 or so.... thats the theory.
