from what I understand resonators don't go on the inside of the exhaust they go on the outside. Maybe I'm missing something

this is a resonator, note the perforated center tube, yeah there's filler in most resonators between the perforated inner tube and the outer shell of the resonator. Think of it as being like a cherry bomb muffler or glass-pack. The resonators you want don't have a filler but they don't effect the sound as much either.

The air isn't going to be as hot as a front style turbo. That's going to put less stress on the resonator in terms of heat, so it SHOULDN'T be too much of an issue. STS recommended instead of using a resonator, use a straight flow through racing muffler.

another thing you can do is use resonated test pipes which do have the resonator on the outside.

I've never heard of outside resonators?

Are you talking about like what Motordyne offers, their ART pipes?

yeah sorry resonators are always exposed to exhaust gasses they don't go over the existing pipe if this is what you believe suck it up your wrong harsh i know, and filled resonators always break down the "mufflers" on most z aftermarket exhausts are all fiber filled and even on an n/a they get louder after the first week thanks to breakdown.

A lot of the performance straight through's are filled too you have to be careful when buying if you don't want a filled one. they resonators that are y'd into the exhaust are more like true resonators by definition as they are mainly hollow and due to resonant frequencies at like a spring when tuned correctly to produce inverted amplitude sound waves that travel back up the y and cancel some of the sound waves in the main exhaust pipe out. the fiber filling in some resonators acts like a damper and absorbs the sound furthering the frequency range the resonator is capable of affecting.

I still dont get whats going on. You can use the LTH with the system or HFC or TP. There turbo piping starts right after the LTH or HFC or TP. Just like an exhaust setup

If anything, the turbos will suppress some of the sound (not a whole lot, just a little bit more than just having a straight through exhaust).

I've owned resonated test pipes. The interior does have anything other than metal. I owned them with a rear mounted setup, so I wouldn't have put them on if there were any chance of material coming apart and blowing through the turbo.

All the resonators I'm familiar with still have fiberglass packed in them except for MotorDyne's ART pipes. There's a metallic funnel, then under the funnel is the packing. If you don't want the fiberglass, then you would need some type of muffler. They do make racing mufflers that resemble resonators.

Do you know the brand that makes full metal based resonators?

You stated that resonators went on the OUTSIDE of the exhaust piping. That is wrong, plain and simple. Even if there is a resonator with nothing packed in it there will be holes inside the pipe just like 1slow370 posted. I assure you that if you buy a resonator it is not just a piece of exhaust piping with some metal put around the outside of it.
