Stillen Canned Tune

I've read across the forums of Stillen's canned tunes being  I know many have highly recommended that one should get a custom tune to get the most out of this kit.....I also read on one of the threads that Stillen sent out new updated tunes...I believe it was discussed in this thread..

http://www.the370z.com/forced-induct...eports-19.html

I'm wondering whether anyone with these new tune set up is running their "Aggressive" map on 91 octane? I was told that Stillen's "Aggressive" map has been set with slightly advanced timing to make more power but should be monitored as it may cause pinging....supposedly it's reported that some cars are running better on their "Aggressive" map versus their "Standard" map.....I'm just curious to know how many of them are running 91 octane using the "Aggressive" map.

I think everyone is saying "pony up and just get it dyno tuned". Screw can tunes. They are either crap or garbage or junk. Take your pick.

Just going by what I've read on this site and others, the canned tunes are only meant to be used to drive to get a "real" tune. Too many variables for a one-size-fits-all solution. YMMV.

I don't get it when guys spend 10K to go FI then cheap out on the tune to actually tie it all together and make it worth it.

Safer, stronger and better running.

As for the canned tune, they'll work with you on it if it really doesn't make any power. I got the canned tune, because it was part of the CARB kit. I think the old tunes that have been documented on this site were pretty bad. People dyno'ing them at around 340-350 whp, and then getting a custom tune at 415 whp on the same hardware. Having acknowledged that, I'll say that the modern-day canned tunes are pretty good. Again they worked with me on a couple spots to smooth it out, and it turned into a usable tune. We went through maybe, 5 revisions total. Maybe less. It's not a full eTune process, but they work with you and it's not bad. I've driven a lot of 400whp cars right off the dyno, and mine feels like it's in that neighborhood.

Because good tuners are hard to find. That is why I tuned my last car myself.

Ok. Your not on the canned tune.

Wow...its good to see this thread come alive. ......Lol

Gunz.....I hear what you're saying...if it were that simple out here it wouldn't be a question....unfortunately like Bulletz pointed out....Good tuners are hard to find....out here we have a company that recently brought a Dynojet to the island.....they're good people that saw a business opportunity but don't know too much about the Z's.....they're more old school muscle car guys.....All of them retired Vets and one of them used to work out in Cali at Pep Boyz.....

despite having the Dyno as a tune their non experience with Z's makes me weary.....the topping on the cake is that we have NO CERTIFIED PRO TUNERS here. This has left me asking about the Can tunes as this is what I have to deal with until a friend of mine who tunes comes back home for vacation in November. ....the can tune is a lot safer in my situation...there's no way I'm gonna just have anyone try and tune this thing......

On another note asking about clarification on the Canned Tune due to what I've read on this thread....

http://www.the370z.com/forced-induct...stom-tune.html

In this thread Mark from Stillen comes out talking about updated canned tunes....trying to get some confirmation from others whether their updated canned tunes were any improvement and whether anyone is running on Stillen's updated "Aggressive" map using 91 octane as Stillen has cautioned that some cars run better on their updated "Aggressive" map but that due to its advanced timing it may cause pinging.

Send me a pm.. i could point u in the right direction for a custom tune!

I've already helped 2 stillen supercharged 370Zs

I run Stillen's canned HFC map -> That is probably what you are calling 'aggressive'. I run 93 octane.
I was traveling & worried about running 91 octane. When I was stock, running 91 would dramatically effect performance.
When I filled up with 91 on my trip (had only 1/6 tank of 93 in there) --> I swear the Z ran BETTER.
I know this is a late post to your question, but I think Stillen tunes them for 91 octane.
That experience has got me thinking hard about a custom tune.
