We had a great car club there that is still going strong.

When the TQ takes it's nose dive away from the HP curve then it's time to shift or you're just spinning the motor with a diminishing rate of acceleration.
Although with my upgraded Stillen set up I did have improved TQ that stayed to about 6200 which would have theoretically been my optimum shift point.
Didn't get the chance to really test it out though before the motor blew.
Just from 'feeling' the motor that 6200 RPM number was about right.
Ran the motor to 7200 in first and noticed that the rate of acceleration fell off noticeably at 6500.

The Minuteman's have been around a really long time ... '50's ish
Tech School back in the day for them was a year long course at Chanute ...
Dreaded the thought of getting orders for Minot or Thule.
Luckily I was assigned to TAC [England AFB (Alexandria) Louisiana and then on to Nakhon Phanom Thailand.

Both 'warm weather' assignments...though I did spend the winter at Chanute.
Won't ever forget marching the cold and blustery flightline to school every morning bundled up with jacket, jacket liner, gloves, glove liners, X'tra socks and Thermals ... oh - and the Freddy Kruger Face Mask that kept freezing up from my breath and would stick to my lips and eyes.

All 3 of these bases no longer exist

BTW a Minuteman travels at +15,000 mph. Now that is FAST!
I remember those days at Chanute. I was there for about 9 months total.

Glad to know that you are a fellow USAF vet.

Default Stillen Air to Air setup

Just spoke to Pat and he said everything in the trans and converter is 100%. He said there are springs in the converter than sometimes make some noise and just to make sure that wasn't it he is building a new converter for it this afternoon/ Monday morning and will ship it back on Monday. He seemed very sure the trans is perfect so now all I can think is " what the hell could that sound have been?", I have no clue so we will have to wait and see.

This noise came from what sounded like underneath the car? Have you inspected the flywheel/clutch set?

So many of your posts to this thread fall in a grey area between good news and bad news. I don't know if I am supposed to be happy or upset for you =)

There is a car on the lift right now but we will inspect it again before the trans goes back in. I will check but don't think that is it, the sound didn't follow the engine rpm and flex plate is bolted the the engine so I would expect any sound from it should follow rpm.
