I plan on ordering a new shift knob from WC Lathe Werks in the coming weeks.

My dilemma is that I'm indecisive on what style shift knob to order. Either the traditional sphere knob or piston knob.

I'm aware a majority of this decision is based off of personal preference. Having never drove with a piston style knob I'm unsure on my own.

So, I ask a basic question of that between the two designs, which do you prefer? If you would like to include what you view as benefits or drawbacks of each design, please do. This isn't intended to be a debate on which is better. Just gathering the forum members personal input.

I like this one for the looks, perhaps remove the shift pattern and opt for the Z logo.

I'm looking at their Piston style as well. Looks really good. It doesn't hurt that it looks nothing like the same "Heavy Baby" knob everyone seem to have

I have the sphere knob from Lathe Werk and love it but this is a very personal decision. More important than what it looks like is how it feels. If you can try sitting in differnet cars with the different styles and find out how it feels to you.

I also have the sphere knob, I think 2" circles are more comfortable then piston because they don't have the top edge.
I have had both in the past.
but I would say it's mostly up to u.

try and fine something that's shaped like the piston an sphere an drill a hole in it to test them out haha

between those two i would do the sphere just as long as the diameter is fairly big and not egg-shaped like those pw-jdm knobs which slip out of your hands.


but if you're spending any kind of good money on a knob, make sure to check out the twm type-r knobs, especially the big type-r knob.

this looks great.... it sits so low.. is it a normal length stalk?

no it's the TWM short shifter in that photo, but all his shift knobs are low mounting.

I did do some extra drilling and cutting to have a .25ish lower knob

Yes it's a straight bolt on. It is built with an internal set screw so you can adjust the stop position and align the shift pattern if you get it engraved on the top. The toughest part is removing the stock knob. I think that Nissan must have got a deal on blue loctite
