Seibon carbon fiber hood questions

Hello all, I have been searching for a couple of days and not been able to find any reviews on Seibon carbon fiber hoods, so I though I would just

Default Seibon carbon fiber hood questions

Hello all,

I have been searching for a couple of days and not been able to find any reviews on Seibon carbon fiber hoods, so I though I would just put a list of questions out there to see if anyone can answer:

1) Is the Seibon carbon fiber hood completely functional (compared to the OEM hood)
2) What is the weight savings
3) If painted will there be any issues, or special preparation that will be needed
4) Are there any problems with the GTR style scoops in regard to rain or snow
5) Does the hood come ready to install or is there preparation needed
6) Is this hood suitable for a daily driver
7) What effect would hail have
8) Any regrets

Thanks in advance for any answers you all can provide.

Seibon wet carbon hoods are heavier than our oem. They come ready to install. I've owned mine for a couple months now and already had to have it wet sanded and recleared. The vents are very functional, they let a great deal of heat out. I didn't paint mine as I do not understand the point really I like it the way it is and since wet carbon doesn't save you enough weight to justify the expense it's really for the look and painting it takes that away.

Our oem hood weighs 1 6lbs my seibon vsii wet carbon hood weighs 22lbs and just so you know you can call them and ask them anything else you need to know. They are really helpful and answered all the questions I had for them

best advice: go dry CF. look achieved and saves weight.

Dry carbon is always in a matte finish which to me just doesn't look good and costs almost double so unless you're building a track car and saving a few pounds is paramount then I would stick with oem. You could always get someone in your area to do a really cool airbrush design if you're into that. That's what I had in mind before going full carbon

form and function over being flashy works for me.

wet CF is awesome looking but like you said its heavier than OEM.

and dry CF is the same thing just without clear. i'm confused as to why you would need an airbrushed design on it?

I'm just saying instead of paying the money for wet carbon (which is more for looks because of the weight) you could just airbrush or ghost a cool design on the hood, something unique. Unless you want to spend the big bucks for the dry carbon

And as far as the form and function thing unless you're building a track car dry carbon isn't really worth the money

I was originally thinking about airbrushing black skulls and realistic flames on the hood and mirrors, what I had in mind I think would look really good on the mag black

Unless your car is set up specifically for track duty, the 6 lb difference in weight is irrelevant.

Vents for heat extraction was my main goal and the carbon look didn't go with my design so I opted for FRP instead. Weight was about the same as the Seibon carbon for half the price....
