Pricing for painting front bumpers - need some help!

So I recently picked up the AMS GT front bumper for my Z and I've been figuring anywhere between $300-400 to paint.

How much did you guys pay when you got your bumpers painted? I want to know so I know if I'm being ripped off or not.

A couple paint shops told me that pearl white is a bit harder than other regular color to work on which sounds reasonable...but is it true?

Any input would be appreciated folks [mods please move thread if its not in the right place]

I had my Nismo bumper painted pearl white for $300. Paid another $150 to shave the emblem while he was working on it. Turned out great.

$300-400 is a good price for a regular color. My paint guy is AMAZING, but he charges an arm and leg for PW because he's like the odds that the tint is off is very high, and he's really anal, so he'd have to repaint it, which all costs money

PW is a 3 stage paint and is very hard to match. if the metallic isn't done properly, it would look a couple of shades off from afar even the base color is perfectly matched.

For future reference, may I ask where you get it painted and if it was a perfect match? Thx.

I don't have PW, but I go to Makito at Seven Apple. He's the man. And REALLY a anal about his work.

The painter is from Louisville, Ky. I found out about him from the guy that sold me the Nismo conversion. I don't have a contact. He had a 3-4 different shades for the paint code that he used to match the hood and fender. It is very very slightly off, but you would ever notice if it wasn't pointed out and then it just depends on lighting.

that looks great. is the nismo front bumper cover a direct fit on the regular z?

if it's just paint probably like 350.

but if there's some fitting that needs to be done, then id expect more like 500

When I had my 350z, I got the front bumper painted for $300. I felt that was a decent deal and I know he gave me a discount when I offered to pay cash. As others have said, pearl white is a tri-coat which makes a very difficult (almost impossible to match). I would never (again) paint sections of a tri-coated vehicle unless I absolutely had to. The guy does great work, but my paint did not match 100%. Most people probably didn't notice it though. Then again, many cars come from the factory with slightly mismatched body panels. Painting on plastic vs metal is two different things.

Yes and No. With all the parts, it is a straight bolt on modificaiton. Very easy and takes less than an hr if you take your time. But to go all oem, you need to replace the fender well liners and the undertray. There is also a diffuser that mounts under the bumper cover and two small corner pieces. The undertray is ridiculously overpriced (~$1000), but there is an aluminum one made by Zspeed that you can use for $400.

not trying to derail the thread too much but how much should i look at in install and paint cost for the AJ fenders? I'm really thinking about getting those in the near future lol

that's very true for any metallic paint, but worse for 3 stage paint such as PW....

the plastic part such as the front and rear bumper covers would be off a shade or two even from the factory. you probably can't tell from close up, but it is there from afar at certain angle.

I got quoted $500 but the guy is my friends uncle he said he would do $450.

I personally wouldn't mind paying a bit more if they can get it to match perfectly. I hate to see the car in 2 tone.
