Carbon Fiber body swap

Is it ridiculous to swap out the hood, doors, fenders and hatch with carbon fiber?

How much weight would you save roughly?

:stirthepot:

The vast majority of the readily available cf parts are wet cf, so you don't really save any weight over the aluminum used in the panels. Dry carbon would do it, but you better have deep pockets.

Stillen had some nice Dry carbon items in their online store, but yes - I would be spending 10K on parts alone.

Plus, carbon doors on a daily driven car scare me. I wouldn't want to bet on how well they hold up in a side impact. Carbon doesn't bend- it shatters.

I got a chip in my hood today, and I got some crazy ideas. Maybe just the hood.

As you said, Carbon shatters into many pieces. However, from what I have heard, that actually is beneficial because it disperses and breaks the impact sooner instead of intaking the impact. Interesting theory, anyone else agree with this?

Let me pay my brand new loan down a bit, and something like that would rock! Only Dry CF need apply...

Your exactly wright ! Every piece that breaks or shatters away from the car is energy dissipating , instead of going into the driver !! Physics every action has an opposite and equal reaction !

I experienced an accident September 2013 at a bar "drinking involved". The driver hit my car and got out of his truck, looked at my car and then drove off. Luckily I had witnesses and they got his plate. He confessed to police two days after "atleast he didnt get DUI and his insurance company paid out 2200 bucks to replace the front bumper. lol The adjuster was like we found bumpers like yours for 500 bucks. I told her those are not Carbon Fiber. She said whats the difference. Told her if she needed to ask then she wouldnt understand lol... I got my money though.. :)
