Switch Panel on console

I was getting PM's about the switches I used on my interior light install so I thought I'd just post the info here too if anyone needed a source.

I picked up a few of these.

Switch

Pop the dummy covers out and these drop right in. You need to radius the two outside corners on the right and left switch but otherwise it's a drop in.

very nice find! i would def do this if i did not have the touring switches!

Modshack 10-01-2009 08:30 AM

+1...Nice job...

speedworks 10-01-2009 12:44 PM

Very nice switches, looks OEM to me. If I decide to add something, this is the route to go.

kenchan 10-01-2009 12:55 PM

absolutely! :D thanks for sharing this with us.

i always hated dummies. :p

hey, you're still here! :D

NewYorkJon34 10-01-2009 03:00 PM

Those look cool, Could we hook those switches up to something useful?

kenchan 10-01-2009 03:08 PM

i suppose if i was to do it again, i would use one of the rocker switches as my dvd bypass switch. it appears they sell momentary versions too. :)

im planning to do some interior lighting so it will work great for
that.

how about wiring one up to the rear fog light?

how about a forward facing fog light?

can also use that as your stereo's bypass switch to your rear
speakers if you have them or an aftermarket sub. (they have
DPDT as well).

many different ideas. :)

Anyone have any tips on getting the dummy covers out? Can it be done without removing the entire center console? I've scratched up that little area and ruined one butter knife already...

LiquidZ 10-02-2009 10:33 AM

Very clean.

i think it's just grab the cup holder and pull up.

if you need to wire something, just use your high-tech wire coat hanger tool... or equivalent. :p

EVOR 10-02-2009 11:17 AM

nice work. Looks like factory.

theDreamer 10-02-2009 11:22 AM

Looks great, adding this to my list for when I install my rear fog light.

kenchan 10-02-2009 11:27 AM

MJ- your wisdom for where to aquire nice LED strips please for interior. :p

i want amber color to match my interior mood light.

kenchan 10-02-2009 01:01 PM

nevermind, i just ordered a pair of LED strips from amazon. :D like $16.

also ordered the pioneer backup camera and foglamp so will do all together. going to relocate the bypass switch to one of the rockers.

so for me:

Rocker1: DVD bypass sw
Rocker2: interior LED (footwell area)
Rocker3: rear foglamp

dcrew1x 10-02-2009 03:27 PM

Let me know how your interior LED install goes! :icon17:

Post a DIY fosho! :p

Sorry Ken. I've been working on my wheel/tire package and wasn't following the thread. But I got my LED's from here LED's and I bought these My LED's in straight chrome blue.
I set up my switches pretty much the same way.
1. Sub Amp Bypass
2. Interior Lights
3. Momentary on for something someday maybe

The dummy switch covers go down and out the bottom so you gotta take the cup holder out. The replacement switches will go in from the top.

thanks for the info. :D guess i'll try them next time around. :p

speedoflife 10-02-2009 10:54 PM

LED's 2
Here is another good website as well. Nice install man! Super clean.

kenchan 10-03-2009 08:36 AM

MJ- when you did your LED's did you pull the +12v from the center console's cigarette socket? I was looking through the servicemanual and thought that would be a very easy tap(?). :)

I can use that for the rear fog too since the bulb is 21w (1.75A). :D

kenchan 10-04-2009 11:19 PM

i realized it's kinda tough to get at that center console 12v so left it as is and removed
the front 12v and converted it into my power source.

i never use that front socket plus people keep kicking it by accident when something's
plugged in so removed it completely. 2 screws and that whole assembly comes off. :p

regular spade connectors slide right in. very convenient.

kenchan 10-05-2009 09:47 AM

here's wat my switch box looks like today... lol

i should have my rockers in by Wed...hopefully. my car is in pieces right now waiting on several items to come in.

Project in progress. Parts all over the place. I know how that goes.

yah, my car is in pieces right now in the garage. got 4 different little projects going at the same time. :icon17:

so any pictures of your interior light install? :)

kenchan 10-07-2009 12:43 PM

gotz my rocker switches this am. :) looks to be high quality.

i also wired up these LED strips last night, just a matter of hooking
up the switches. these come with double stick tape on the back
side so i mounted them under the seats where there is a stainless
bar that runs side to side (and stationary even if you moved the
seats).

will take some shots tonight. put a sharpie in the pict for size reference.

http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...e6802-leds.jpg

now the only problem i got is removing the damn dummy
rear fog lamp. the bolt spins with the 10mm nut on both.
i think im going to drill into them and bust them off.

theDreamer 10-07-2009 12:45 PM

Which bolt? The higher or the lower one?
When putting mine back in the higher one (if under the car the one on the left side) went in and then started spinning near the end.

both of them. like the DIY, i took my ratchet VERY SLOWLY but the bolt spun from the getgo... :eekdance:

Sucks to hear, and it is not exactly an easy area to do work in to begin with.

kenchan 10-07-2009 01:27 PM

yah, the top one's going to be a pita...

for the bottom one im going to drill a hole in the middle of the bolt,
hold the bit with my pliers and loosen the nut.

but the top one...hummm... not sure. i may take my dremel tool
and just cut it. :D

kenchan 10-07-2009 10:28 PM

as MJ mentioned, the 4 corners need to be sanded a little bit.

this is the inter switch frame (screwed onto the cup holder trim from the bottom)

http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...ot-rounded.jpg

After trimming, mounted into the cupholder trim.

Installed onto car. :)

kenchan 10-07-2009 10:30 PM

here is the LED strip under the seat. what i like about this is that it's not SUPER BRIGHT like those hot import nights stuff... it goes well with the factory mood light. :p

http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...re6811-led.jpg

dcrew1x 10-10-2009 11:46 AM

Hey Kenchan,

Can you show us a pic farther back of the LED.. kinda like an ambient glow pic overall (doesn't necessarily need to show the actual LED's; just want to see the glow lights up the car overall)

kenchan 10-10-2009 12:38 PM

Let me see if I can get a shot of that. I have no camera skillz and use my blackberry for these DIY shots. :D

Will see if my digital camera can capture it. It's not bright at all (how I want it) and rather just a low light red glow like the mood light.

The pedals and back of your legs reflect the light.

frost 10-10-2009 12:40 PM

Interesting thread. Love the look.

kenchan 10-11-2009 05:32 PM

dcrew- sorry, i tried but i cant get a good pict with my camera. the red light is low key and would need a super slow shutter to get the glow.

dcrew1x 10-11-2009 05:37 PM

no worries. Thanks for trying :icon17:

theDreamer 11-01-2009 07:38 PM

Just bought mine tonight, my list is going to be this depending on how things work out with some 2010 parts:
1) Rear fog light
2) Heated side mirror switch - Might try to tap this into the rear defroster but not 100% sure how hard/easy it will be
3) Not sure what to do with my third switch yet but thinking maybe some interior LEDs (amber to match stock color).

Thoughts on anything for the third switch besides just interior LEDs?

kenchan 11-02-2009 03:46 PM

how wiring up a shiatsu massage chair pad?

just dont sit facing the other way please...
