Water leaking into cabin on the drivers side

Invest in a car cover asap. But that should not be the ultimate solution to this problem.

I opened top halfway, wiped down all rubber seals with damp cloth, checked for cracks, pinches or other obvious seal failures and inspected the "tub" and the small open areas where the top sits when opened and found nothing.

We then made several failed attempts to locate a water leak via the "sit in the car while spraying it down" and after receiving responses from local shops not wanting the work, the wife dropped her 2010 Z at the dealer yesterday and picked up a Versa as a loaner.

I'll report back...

Yes. (but not sure I understand) The Nissan dealership claims that a "bow" in the top is defective. They also said that parts to repair the top are no longer available and could not do the repair. Contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs, they said they couldn't do anything to help. Wrote dealer letter asking for guidance with the repair... That was a week ago.
Unless there is a positive (is some way) response, this will be the last Nissan for us. We've had 3.

Defective? In what way would a defective bow allow water into the cabin? Does your top open and close properly (aside from the 5th bow hitting the lid).
Thats a piss poor explanation. I would ask them to be more specific, and if they cant or wont, report them to Nissan and Consumer Affairs. It sounds to me they couldnt find the problem and just giving you BS.

A vette lady next door said it might be water coming thru the cabin filter if on passenger side. If it is the part they say I see many part outs on the forum & buy that piece

As soon as I get time I'll post the history of issues we've had with the top.

@bunk asked if the top opened and closed properly. It did new, then started to stop halfway. We brought it in to the dealer (while under warranty) and got the "Yeah, we fixed it... but then it wouldn't open again weeks later, I (and Nissan) have a record of everything done with the top.

Latest response from local dealer (after three emails and three weeks) to get a "hint" on the diagnosis.

The concern on your 370Z seems to be related to the convertible top. While we no longer have anyone trained on convertible tops, we did have a factory trained technician look at your vehicle. He found the top binding at points along it’s path. In our opinion some of the linkages that compose the framework of the top are deformed from the binding. From what I gather; this usually begins with wear in the joints between those linkages. Since the framework of the top is a precise movement and timed mechanism (much like the inner workings of an old clock) everything has to be near perfect for it to work as designed. Our recommendation is to replace the Folding Top Assembly. This item is no longer available for us to order through our supply system. I have asked my Parts Manager to search for one on Monday and I will let you know if we get lucky.
In all honesty the top has been lowered/raised MAYBE 50 times and the car is garage kept w/ 100K miles.

Alabama lemon law reads as if its for new cars AND must be done within the first year of ownership.

I got a response from the Service Manager...
Quote:
The Folding Top Stack assembly is a discontinued part from Nissan North America. However, we have found one of these we can procure, if we act quickly and it is a new part. We will not be able to get an ETA on the part until after it ships. The total investment for this repair is: $21,334.17 plus tax, of course.
I wonder if this guy is serious?

That is absolutely ridiculous String him along and tell him to procure the part while you procure financing. Do not pay them a dime.

Frankly, if they have done work on the top and there was never a leak before the work, I would argue that the work they did caused the problem and they should be fixing it at their own expense. Get corporate involved.

Have you done a drench test? Take a garden hose w/o attachment and let it pour over different parts of the car with someone inside checking.

I'm sorry I don't have any information for you, but I'm a bit confused by this issue. how can parts no longer be available? didn't Nissan sell the roadster until literally last year? were there two versions?
