Roof/windshield part flew off at the highway
Hi,
I just came home from work, and at the highway on my way home, a roof/windshield part flew off at approx. 90 mph. It's the first time i experience something like this, never heard about this issue before. I turned around and found the part - in a thousand pieces. So my questions to you professionals: 1. Have you ever experienced something like this, is this a common problem on the 370Z? 3. Should this be fixed through some kind of warranty? 2. If this is not a warranty-question - do you know where i can buy this part? I live in Sweden and the market for stock 370Z-parts isn't especially big here. Here's a pic of the part missing. Thanks. http://i58.tinypic.com/10d6qns.jpg |
wow. that should definitely not fly off. have you ever removed it? if not, i would definitely bring it into the dealership. maaaaybe they might be able to do something for you. i doubt it, but its worth a try. in any case, here is the part you need:

I'm with the other posters, DAMN!!!

Wtf, that's not right...
|
Thanks for your answers.
I don't know if the windshield has been replaced recently, I just bought it a couple of months ago. Everything else seems to be in really good condition so this was the last thing I thought could fail. The most annoying thing in this story is that when this part fell off, it also scratched and dented the side of the car. My Z was 100% free from dents and scratches before this happened... Aaargh! Yep I will visit my local Nissan dealership on Monday to see what the can do for me. I just hope this will open your eyes to make sure it doesn't happen to you ;) Again, thanks. |
I am going to duct tape this thing at the base of the hood now.

Reminds me of MINI's doing that yrs ago. :icon17:
Your dealer sells prepainted ones. GL! |
Really? They're painted already? :O
|
Yes
|
Well that's great news, thanks a lot!
|
:wtf2:
Sorry that some idiot caused that to happen to your new ride. I have a spare panel, but it's not much help being in the US, painted Monterey Blue, and for the driver side. GL getting everything sorted out :tiphat: |
Thanks for the link. I am about to order here since my retailer wanted approx. 650 USD for only the part, plus 300 USD painting...
But how do I know which one is the yellow one? It's not written out on the page. Quote:

check link, scroll down for YELLOW RH (passenger side) Part Detail GL! :D |
What would I do without you guys? :) Thanks.
One last question before I place the order - does it come with the necessary screws and mounting parts? |
humm, im pretty sure it will have the tabs pre-mounted on your a-pillar finisher side.
are you missing any hardware on the car side? if so, you'll want to source that too. |
Yeah I'm missing a big yellow piece that goes all the way from the hood, and then next to the windshield and at the side of the roof.. ;D
Jokes aside - if there's some tabs or screws missing, I think my local dealer kan provide them. This part is the crucial part right now :) |
yep, i think your local dealer can help you with that as well.
GL with the fix. hope you get that part real soon. |
I'm really grateful with all the help. Thank you.

Hi again,
I just finished mounting the part yesterday. For those of you who don't know - these pillars have really poor mounting. The pillar is only mounted with tabs (!) under the big painted part, and then mounted with only a few screws along one side (where the pillar meets the side window). It is in no way attached to the roof, at the "roofside" of the pillar. I think a sidewind catched the pillar while driving and bended it up/to the side so much that it cracked and fell off. I will reinforce the mounting with some type of glue/silicone underneath, and with screws at the front and the back, so it doesn't happen again. This cost me around 800$ total, for the part and paintjob. I did the mounting myself, took about 1 hour. But here's the result. It's all good now. All good :) http://i58.tinypic.com/2emoi80.jpg |
Looks good  Glad everything worked out for you :tiphat:
|
looks good, but did that pillar not match your paint color? or are you talking about the scratch that got on the rear quarter (was it?) for the paint job?
anyway, looks good. |
I wasn't able to order the prepainted pillar, they only shipped within US and I live in Sweden.
So i had to buy a grey one, which really doesn't matter now since they did one hell of a paintjob, you couldn't tell that it once had another color. The scratch and dent that i got on the rear side, next to the tire - that was fixed by a guy with some serious PDR-skills. Really impressed by him and the technique! |
How in the world did that fall off. Just saying that thing is secured on by 8-9 screws. It called the A pillar btw.
