Leather replacement
Hey Guys,
Maybe someone here would know how I can make my dream come true and get my Z. I am ready to buy the Z, problem is I am against leather (sorry but it just makes me feel bad). I talked to 6 NIssan dealerships in Los Angeles area and even called Japan headquarters, with no luck, the "best" offer I got was to buy the car and do an aftermarket replacement to the leather seats (Touring model), then I said ok I will take the base model, then realized the Steering Wheel and Shift knob are leather wrapped as well… No dealership could give me an honest answer and solution, first few said yes yes we can do that no problem, then when I asked again to double check they said no or its complicated or never called me back… My question is, anyone here know where can I find an after market place specially for the Z that can replace the leather interior to cloth, including the Steering wheel? Or if anyone that have a base model Z and want to get the leather seats for free (only cost of the labor), if its possible I am willing to exchange. I am from LA CA so it has to be local guys. Thank you for reading and hopefully someone here have an answer:) |
Buy a base + sport, then have the steering wheel rewrapped in alcantara by these guys: DCT MS Products and purchase an aftermarket metal shift knob and alcantara shift boot.
Also, is the leather in the 370z even real, or is it synthetic? |
You should make a post in the Socal region, I am sure someone with a base Z will gladly swap their cloth seats with you, all the harnesses are there in the base so it's simply plug and play.
|
Are you a hippie?
I only ask because the 370Z's interior isn't real leather... |
And I'll swap you for base seats immediately
|
Be a man eat meat!
|
Thanks
I am not going to get into the discussion of why and what being a man is all about, trust me, this will lead to no where and will make many people angry :)
And I am not an hippie, just very compassionate guy that you would probably rather have next to you when you are in trouble than most other people:) "aszyd" As for rewrapped in alcantara, is the process including taking the leather out of the wheel? is that possible? the dealerships told me that I will have to replace th whole wheel...and the cost might be over $1,000. "Zbrah" according to the dealer, replacing the seats from the Touring is complicated since they are power seats and heated, the base model is not so there is an issue of the electricity there on top of the structure. "DEpointfive0" Can you please prove that its not please?:) I asked every one including the representative in Japan by phone call, they all say its real leather... And yes, I will have to buy the car and wont be able to lease it, I was thinking about waiting for the 2015 model, I know NIssan has new technology for fake leather that looks and feel exactly the same, but again no one tell me when this model should be out... any suggestions guys? |
Leather replacement
Re posting from another forum, because I think it's related to here:

Get over the leather, it is pleather. No mu-cow in any of it.
|
I'm speaking from experience here. I swapped my base seats for a set of leather touring seats just a few months back, it's all plug and play, even the seat warmers are working.
|
How do you know this?
Spooler, do you know this as a fact, if you have anyway to prove it, you solved me the whole problem and I am getting the car tomorrow....
Problem is why would Nissan lie about it? They are writing "Leather-appointed sport seats with synthetic suede inserts" so saying that the suede is synthetic so why not to write the seats are not real leather as well? I mean if they know its fake and I told them I am not going to buy the car if its real, isn't it very stupid of them? |
I sold my touring seats but my friend is selling his, he is in NorCal but shipping doesn't cost much shoot me a message
|
Its all marketing verbiage. Nissan uses cheap materials to keep costs low, if they offer real leather and alcantara you better believe it will come with a higher price tag.
|
Zbrah, they told me that upgrading to leather Touring is possible for some reason but going the other way isn't? I dont get those sales people.....
Also will it keep the Power and heated functions on the cloth seats? |
No, once you do the swap, the seat warmer and auto adjustment goes with the touring seats, your base seats will not have any power functions aside from the airbag sensors.
|
Also, the main issue is the Steering wheel, the only reason I want the Touring is because Nissan are very stupid about it and putting the Nav/Tech package only there....
So I thought to go with the base and put an after market Nav and Tech system (Bluetooth, sound system, parking cameras and sensors) but I dont want it to look fake or cheap... I want it to fit and look like the original Touring Nav system, is this possible? |
thats cool I don't really need seat warmers and power as well... how many times you really move the chair in this small compartment ?!:)
|
|
Indeed looks good, and can save a lot of money too.
So, back to the main issue, how can I find out if its real or not, any one here know someone that actually checked it? I saw this Post: http://www.the370z.com/detailing-was...magnified.html But not sure what all that means? |
Hmm... I'm sure someone would enjoy trading their base seats and door panels for leather for free.
|
Didn't someone on here figure out it wasn't even real leather?
|
What's wrong with leather? If you're afraid it will get too hot in the summer, just get a sun shade.

In any case, up to you, if you want a swap done, I can set one up for you. |
If its an ethical issue where's the morals of buying the car in leather and throwing the leather in the garbage. If you are going to purchase the car with leather on it isn't it more repsectful to the animal to use the leather?

dude I probably live right next to you come grab my cloth seats and move on.. tell Andrew to piss off xD
|
What does the stirring wheel do? I'll take it
|
Check your PMs
|
What year is your car I know my 2012 was all pre wired for the touring seats
|
The 2015 build sheets were just released and they will for 15 be offering a base with sport and tech, probably have to wait 2-3 months!

Where can I find the sheets for this? for sure better to wait now... |

this is like some folks that arent supposed to eat cows for religious reasons chowing down on
a hamburger since it's 'ham' aka pork. :ugh2: buy the car, remove leather, have aftermarket cloth wrapped or trade seats with someone. |

And you are right, normally I wouldn't even think about it! Thats why I am trying to avoid buying it as is and figure out if its even real or not. |
Quote:
Thats why this won't happen as you think it is. Please think before you judge. |
