Default Plasti-dip warning

To anyone with a Silver Z.

When I got my 2014 Z in December I didn't know if I wanted to powercoat the wheels and do some permanent black trim so I decided a good intermediate step would be to use Plasti-Dip and then make a decision. I know lots of people on here don't believe it Plasti-Dip but I watched hours of youtube videos and spoke with people in the area that have done it and thought it was fine.

I bought some cans of the dip, and did the wheels, door handles, and badges myself. Even though I put five coats on, it didn't really look great and hold up when I took it through a regular cash wash. Decided to take it off the car and wheels and there was no problem.

So I then decided to get it professionally done and I wanted to have my car look like DatsunFTW has done. I bought a Carbon Signal front lip and side skirts and then had one of the top custom car guys in town who does amazing Hot Rod paint jobs who also happens to be a approved Plasti-Dip dealer blacken the front lip, side skirts and area below doors, spoiler, door handles, and badges. This professional car guy treats every car like its his own. Meticulous and talented.

When the guy did the door handle and spoiler and removed the excess that you put around the area when Plasti-Dipping it was bright Pink. So for about two inches around both door handles and four inches along the spoiler it was pink. The custom guy freaked and called me the next morning and then I pretty much freaked. He then called Dip Your Car to speak to someone about this issue. The person he spoke with essentially told him that this is common when using the gallons professionally on Silver cars and that it will just go away in a couple of days. Something about what is in the gallons that is not in the spray cans. Well it hasn't gone away. So now I have two discolored car door and a back hood that might need to be painted. Strangely it didn't color the non-metal areas of the car, only the metal.

So what concerns me is that the guy at DipYourCar had what I will call an unprofessional attitude and knew that this happens. The question to him was why the heck wouldn't you tell people about this possibility and warn them. No response as it didn't seem like a big deal to him.

So if you have a Silver Z (or a silver car for that matter) I would consider the possible ramifications if using the gallons of PlastiDip. I simply would't want anyone else to have to deal with what I am dealing with right now. It even might end up where I have to file a suit against them to get it resolved which just plain sucks.

I will update thread if any changes happen (like a miracle and the pink actually does disappear).

Thanks everyone.

I've never heard of anything but the spray being used on cars (which I've never had a problem with in my applications). I really hope this works out for you!

This thread here recommends spraying the discolored area with Goof Off.

ive only experimented with the cans, and had no issues taking it off after a few months.

Pink hm? that is different.

edit : use goof off apparently to clean it. not goo gone or any other product.

No more plastidip on this Z. I had the wheels dipped initially out of laziness but then I took them for powdercoat. The appeal and comfort of not worrying about something "peeling" is a much better route for me. I dipped the handles as well but after some time I was sick of pulling a layer off everytime I opened the door. I took them off during the weekend and painted them. The lip kit of course is in carbon fiber not sure what my referral was intended for.

Sent from my Android 'cause I'm too lazy to open the computer.

I am very sorry to hear about that..

I have a silver Z and dipped my whole car. The areas I have peeled before don't seem to have this issue and I haven't had any in the past.

Let us know if Goof Off or another product gets rid of it - Just don't rub too hard lol
