Water leaking into the passenger side... help?
I washed my car today and noticed that after washing it, there was a small puddle of water on my rubber mat. It is coming through some how and I cannot figure it out.
I am certainly not going to dump more water to try and find out. This is why I came here to see if anyone else had this problem? The panels under the hood has been removed before so I can install my turbo kit and gauges. The panels were put back as is and now I have a leak. As far as I know, when it rains it doesn't leak into the car. I believe it is coming through the air vents under the hood but is that possible? Any help is appreciated. Thanks |
is your cabin filter wet?

check the rubber door sills at the bottom of passanger door, if anything use some talcom powder and Pam this will assist in finding where the intrusion is.

were you using a high pressure hose at the time?
Water will sometimes find a way in around the rubber under pressure.... |
If the panels you are talking about are the panels that cover the battery and brake reservoir, make sure they are seated properly at the bottom of the windshield and that the foam gasket between the panels and the hood is intact.

Big rubber grommet under your windshield wiper cowling on passenger side. More than like this was the access they used for wiring. I would bet $100. Use the DYI on how to pull the steering lock fuse to get access in there.

It's really easy to get to it. Pop the hood, take that black plastic piece off the passenger side. I think the battery cover too. OP. If it's under warranty, take it in... If not, you're FUCKÉD. Don't touch the grommet because you'll break it more. And if it is that grommet... PM me. But plan on selling the car. This is an unfixable problem without replacing the entire wiring loom. Unless I undo all the wiring which I prefer not to do, is there another way to seal that grommet by adding some sort of material to it? |
I'm sure if you dump a ton of RTV silicone and get it all up in there REAL good, you may be able to seal it.

Yah, I mean can't you use bathtub caulk or something?
Yet another homedepot mod! :ugh2: |
My old Z had this same problem come up, nissan changed the rubber on the passenger side, but to no avail. Good luck bud
Can you cut a small hole in the passenger carpet and use that to seal the hole? It's not the best but compared to the wiring loom, 100x better. If it's anything like the driver's side, it will be high enough up to not be visible |

So now I wash my car once every 3-6 months because I'm fearful (my car smelled for months before I knew the problem), and I drive 80 miles each way to go back to the dealer, complain, plead that they replace the fuckíng thing but the guy ends up installing some 3M caulk tape... |
I had the same issue with my Nismo when they installed the built in Radar detector and custom stereo in my car.
One of the retards at custom sounds forgot to..... Have you had anything added to your car? |

I have seen this used on other cars with water leaks with great success. But the **** they use for repairing soles on running shoes. It comes in a jar much like rubber cement and also has a brush so you can really push it into the openings.

Anyone know of any good tape that can withstand all types of weather? Maybe if we tape the entire grommet with the wires far enough out, it can prevent the leak?
I was thinking about using electrical tape but not sure how it will hold up against Chicago weather. |

Fortunately I think it only leaks when I use a pressurized spray. |

Is it coming through that harness there? If so, that sucks. Where I put my radar detector wiring lol Guess I'm gonna have to goo it too... |

I made a hole in the grommet and had to use silicone to seal around. I accidentally broke the clip which holds the grommet down. Any suggestions? Can I add a bracket with a screw of some type which will hold the grommet down.
|
Fixed the water leak from grommet. Turns out the clip I broke which kept the grommet in place, left a hole in the plastic. Since the grommet still had one clip left I ended up using a bungee cord. I took the hook and placed it through the hole on the plastic in the grommet and pushed the other side through the fire wall. I then placed the grommet into place and pulled on the bungee cord on the inside of the car and hooked the other side to a plastic clip on the heater fan. Took car through car wash and no water leaking inside voila.

I fixed the leak recently.
I used RTV and created a gasket under the grommet. Worked like a charm. Now I have no more leaks. Just for those that are wondering how to fix it. |

same problem
I am having this same problem, except on both sides (driver and passenger) ...some days, I have standing water on my floor mats. Other days, it just builds up under the carpet and soaks the entire side. I noticed you guys were mentioning that rubber grommet. I haven't dug too deep, but does anyone have photos by chance? I'd really appreciate any advice on this. Like others mentioned, the smell and it's ruining the luxury of owning this car.
Thanks for any pointers. |
