It finally happen to me
I'm the kind of guy that when he locks his doors he looks back at the car to
See if the lights flash...so I looked back and notice my left driverside taillight is busted and with red paint and scratches on my left side bumper so I almost lost my marbles then and there, but I didn't, I did noticed a red suburban parked on the left side next to mine before I got into my Z and headed to work...I know the peeps who did it but they are a low income ppl n I'm almost 100% sure they don't have insurance. I'm thinking about just fixing the damages out of pocket without involving the insurance(geico) company...what should I do? N where is a good vender to buy a new tail light? Please help your fellow Z |
Being broke isn't an excuse to not take responsibility. I'd ask them to cover it.

you have to at least confront them about it if you definitely know it was them. (did you check their car to see if any paint was missing/damage done?) |
Isn't it illegal to drive without insurance?

Something like this happened to my brother before but it was a collision on the freeway. They changed lanes out of nowhere hitting us on the right side so we both pulled over which I immediately called the police. We found out that they didn't have any insurance so their vehicle got impounded until they can show proof later. Anyway, they couldn't cover the damages and per the police officer states that they do not make even half the average annual income and couldn't cover it so either we had to suck it up or could take it to court. We found out that the court/lawyer fees costs more than repainting the bumper and fender. It felt like we were the bad guys asking money from the poor.
It sucks man, I hope everything turns out good for you OP. |

Uninsured motorist coverage is a must in Texas. More than half the accidents I have been in were covered under uninsured motorist. You typically still have to pay your deductible, but it will not increase your rates even though your insurance is paying for it.

The thing is that my deductible is $1k n I'm pretty sure I can fix the damage without the need to involve gieco for about 3/4s of the money n my rate won't go up...n I tried looking for damage on his suburban and I did find some but all over the place...in other words he/she/they don't have a straight panel on the suburban...any reliable site(s)for a L taillight?

An older couple dinged my door in the Lowes parking lot, and also damaged my driver's side mirror. The total ended up being $1400 to fix everything. They paid for it, still a hassle though. If you need a new tail light, you will probably need to spend $400 for a new one, if not more. Then any damage to the paint/body will need repaired as well.
