Quick Window Tint Question

Hi all,

So I am recently going to tint the windows on a Nissan 370z, but I have a quick question regarding laws:

In Washington State, the law states that you must allow >24% light in on all windows and be <35% reflective. So if I have bought, registered, and tinted my windows in Washington State, can I drive it to a state with different laws eg. Washington DC where it must allow >50% of light in.

Thank!

I'd say no. Since it is removable, they could make you remove it.

Yup you may get pulled, And they will ticket you.

Depends on your area and what cop you run into. I've got a buddy with 5% on his X-5 and he's gone almost a year so far with no problems, even though it makes his car look like a limo/drug dealer. I doubt you'd actually get pulled over for it but if you're speeding, then lip off to the cop, then yeah...

I've got 20% (it looks even darker on a MB nismo with black interior) and the MD legal limit is 35%. No problems so far, but it's only been about 6 weeks.

yah, i got to enjoy removing tint when i moved.... :ugh:

You may get a ticket, but unless you try to register it in another state I doubt you'd have to remove it.

I would think you would be able to drive it to any state, as it's registered in Washington, which are the only laws & regs your car needs to meet. Unless you change your residency you shouldn't have a problem.

yah, if you're not going to reside in another state, than no need to worry. your plate will tell the cop that you're from out of town.

but if he keeps seen you around over the course of a month or so, then he could pull you over to see wat's up.

Exactly. It would be like driving into a state that requires a front plate vs. one that doesn't. They don't ticket you for not having a front plate...

Don't worry about it I have 15% on mine a d I've never been pulled over for it

like xpsnd it said. As long as your tint is legal in the registered state you will be fine. I have a buddy who has 15% on his car with GA plates and hasn't gotten pulled in NC in years (35% legal tint).

The tint shop I always use here in Nashville (in business since 1975!) applies a small sticker to the driver's side front window noting the tint is in compliance with Tennessee regulations. They are required to do so by law but I do not recall seeing other cars from other local shops doing the same.

Thanks for all of the replies guys :) I'm not going to move, but is a two month summer vacation too long?

I have 15% tint. Legal tint is 32%. I have been followed/sat next to many police cars. I have even been pulled over once. Haven't said a thing. My philosophy is this: If you drive a nice car, they won't give you any problems. It's usually the POS (sketchy) cars they get.
