Yep! Another diy be me, canards?

I took some tin foil and rolled it so I could conform it to the bumper. Then I transferred the shape onto a piece of cardboard and cut it out. I took the design from the look of the APR front canards. They are going to sit at about a 15* angle.

What's everyone think?

I always liked the dual look.

Riptide67 04-24-2014 12:58 AM

Idk if the sharp angled point compliments the front or not. I'd love to see a straight on photo.

RyanWest 04-24-2014 01:02 AM

shave the sharp edge a little. make it flow with the bumper more

Like ground level?

Just round it a bit?

synolimit 04-24-2014 02:55 AM

I like this. It's got a rounded tip now, the line running from the front to back matches the bumper into the fender perfect and the front across plane isn't curved back like a air plane wing, it's more straight across into the wind as if it was a flat end school bus.

This the angle you want? The angle of attack is 15.6 degrees on this lower. Still making the upper out if 22g for a template.

synolimit 04-24-2014 03:47 AM

Don't mind the upper ones out side edge. This was all for the correct curve of the bumper. It got wavy so the carbon fiber one will be wider and more straight.

RyanWest 04-24-2014 01:15 PM

I would make it even more rounded. Seems like it's sticking out to far

synolimit 04-24-2014 01:27 PM

Lol well it needs to catch the wind. GT wings aren't tiny.

SOUTHZZ 04-24-2014 02:04 PM

Interesting...
Are not canards available for the 370 in CF?
You are planning on making them out of CF.
What the plan to do this? Are you going to cover the
shape made of sheet metal etc? Most canards I've seen
(had some Varis canards on my 350)are molded.
I agree, the parts need to be more rounded or they will look
like a universal fit part.
Good luck!

SouthArk370Z 04-24-2014 02:11 PM

Great start but I'm with RyanWest that it's a bit too big and/or not quite curvy enough to fit in with the rest of the body. But it ain't my car. ;)

In for pics of finished product.

PS: The hood vent looks great.

Not mine
Yes, 12x48 panel for $45 on eBay
Down force of course. As stated the metals just a mold or template for cutting.
More rounding will be less material and less down force. I don't think any canard looks "factory."
Thanks

RyanWest 04-24-2014 04:35 PM

But some of us do like the look. Just not about tracking the car.

RyanWest 04-24-2014 04:36 PM

The metal design is growing on me the more I look at it

I hear yeah.

Well it's just a template and paper thin. The cf will look good with the white.

Masterbeatty 04-24-2014 05:10 PM

You should make them in metal first before buying the CF. That way you can do some testing to see what angle of attack works best then refine it in CF. Either way will work if properly mounted. looks good though in metal

Use a gopro and some sting and drive around to see what angle gets more turbulence. Also a splitter would help also with downforce as well in conjunction with canards.

Phuck the way it looks. Because race car damnit!

synolimit 04-24-2014 06:07 PM

We'll I'll be able to change the angle in cf. I googled and 15* came up in every thread. The lower can't be changed due to body lines and LEDs. I don't have a gopro and being plasti dipped I don't think it will stay attached. I'll be doing a splitter soon as I find a local place for alumalite or something.

Masterbeatty 04-24-2014 06:55 PM

Good luck that stuff is expensive. All the places around me its $300 for the brand name stuff for a 8x11 sheet. Look at sign companies rather than metal suppliers. From the places i called they have a nylon based product that is just as strong but half the price. I cant remember the name but i can get back to you.

synolimit 04-24-2014 07:02 PM

Found a place online for $99 but needs shipped. No idea on shipping yet.

bleunetizen 04-24-2014 07:05 PM

are these legal in the USA? pretty clean way to chop someone's leg off! :D

martin82 04-24-2014 08:10 PM

I would not even bother with the APR canard design, those are not functional. If I were to copy, I'd go closer to the voltex canards....

Evasive Motorsports | PH: 626.336.3400 Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm PST: Voltex

if you want something more for looks than functiona, check out the MCR canards shape: http://www.zshop.ca/parts/z34-mcr-cf-front-canards/

here are some pictures of my friend's car that are breaking records in socal:

a sheet of 8x4 of alumalite is about 100-150$ in socal, there is also dibond, stronger but heavier as well

martin82 04-24-2014 08:40 PM

im digging these ones on a gtr:

Seems to complicated for me. Plus no wind tunnel. I was thinking of adding vertical side wings to the outside edges.

Wonka2581 04-24-2014 10:16 PM

Whats up with the thing on the Hood? is it some type of soop? and also whats the hole next to the DRL's??

Sooo.... Are you actually racing your car or just creating a Franken-Z?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

synolimit 04-25-2014 11:19 PM

Don't think I'll be legal for any racing. Just building a track car so it can be the fastest it can be. I hear TT might take me though. If not then just track days.

JENZ 04-25-2014 11:26 PM

Ok cause if you're just cutting holes for the hell of it, you'd be on par with this guy I saw at pepboys buying a stick on hood scoop for his roof. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/26/8ehepu4u.jpg

synolimit 04-25-2014 11:35 PM

Doesn't matter if I was just building it to sit in the garage. Everything I build is 100% functional and has a purpose. You're very mistaken thinking this car would be on par with that. Two completely different worlds. You should know that.

JENZ 04-25-2014 11:46 PM

Ok buddy.
