load resistor question
I don't know if this is a dumb question but can anyone please tell me where(exact wire color) to hook up the resistors in the front to prevent hyperflash!
I finished my lights and while I was at it I was gonna get rid of that so I tried a few things cuz I did do research but I can't seem to get it workin gotta admit I am not the best with electric a I would appreciate any help thx! |
You need to hook up one end of the resistor to the ground/common wire and the other to the wire to the turn signal wire connecting to the bulb. So if your bulb plug has 2 wires coming out of it that lights up the bulb, connect the resistor ends to those 2 wires.
IIRC, you'll need one for each turn signal bulb you replaced with LEDs. |

thx for ur reply digi but that's pretty much what I did exept I soldered one wire to the the turnsignal and went to ground on the car!
unless I went to ground twice lol do u know if the green white or green yellow wire is ground or power??? ok this Is what I tried I have on both lights soldered on end of each res. to on cable from the turnsignal I think it was green yellow or green white and then I went to ground on the body and when that didn't work I tried to connect between the two turns. cables dunno the other color right now! not the black third wire tho ;) which is to hook up switchback so pretty much what u said I tried but no luck maybe I just had bad ground all the time :/ |
OOh... you have the 3rd wire which is for DRL right?
I use a cheap multimeter and set it to continuity check. One probe on the chassis, and the other to probe the terminals inside the bulb socket. If you hear a beep, that's the ground wire. Set it to VDC for the voltmeter and probe the remaining terminals while the blinker is active, and you'll know for sure which one is the turn signal wire. That's when you solder both ends of the resistor to those wires. Another check is to plug in the LED bulb and make sure it lights up. Remember the orientation, pop off the bulb or get another one, and rig up a 9V battery to get it to light up, and from there you'll know the polarity matching the terminals in the socket. |
Yes I do have that 3rd wire but it's just like a short piece that leads nowhere! Maybe it's time to get comfortable with a multimeter never used one of those lol but I will try and I'll report back

It's a great tool. Simple cheap one for about $20 or less is more than adequate for small jobs. Plus it's good if you need to trace pins. For example my harness adapter didn't have a dimmer wire so I was able to trace it and get dimmer working for my stereo. Also I was able to trace the wire needed to power up my reverse camera. No blown fuses and I get things working on the first try.

The FSM has wiring diagrams with color codes. Probably easier than putting a meter on it.
As has been pointed out, run the resistor from the "hot" side of the lamp to ground. |

The connector pinouts, which show the pin numbers and wire colors, is usually right after the wiring diagram, which is usually about 2/3 - 3/4 of the way through each section. If you can find it in the TOC, you should be able to click on it to go straight there.

Ok I probably spent an hour and a half now could not find it! Now I read ur last post and tried to find TOC and it's not listed

See E58 front turn signal lamp? You wire the resistor in parallel to that bulb to wires marked 4 (Ground) and 6 (Turn Signal Output). What you're trying to do is create a load using the resistor that's enough to fool the BCM into thinking the bulb is still there. The drawback with this method is that you'll never know when the LED bulb stops working. Well... I guess that works both ways haha.

Assuming you are talking about the front turn signal lights, then you need to find connectors E55 pins 1 (hot) and 2 (ground), E58 pins 4 (ground) and 6 (hot), E24 pins 1 (hot) and 2 (ground), and E28 pins 4 (ground) and 6 (hot) in the pinout section (should be just a page or three past the last wiring diagram in that section). The pinouts will tell you the wire color.
Edit: BTW, you only need one resistor for each side (the lights are in parallel). Make sure the resistor can handle the power. |

Well I'm sorry guys but once I try looking at these diagrams I just get so confused mind u I'm looking at this the first time :/
I am just gonna try to connect each resistor of each light to connect between the two wires that are at the socket cuz for that led bulb to work it needs a hot and a ground so if there is only 2 than it should b pretty safe to assume that those are the right ones no? Also when is the car gonna switch back to normal blinking? Do I first have to finish with the res on all 4 lights(front and rear) or should each light go back to normal when I hooked up the res on lets say just front right for example Oh and ya I know 1 for each light (does that mean I need one for each side marker too???) and they are 50w 6 Ohm that's supposedly what everyone is using for our cars Edit: ok so what I did didn't work I went to the green-black with one end and to the black-yellow with the other end of the res. those are the 2 wires from the turnsignal socket but I only did the fronts so far Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
If you want to be safe, get a splice and some extra wires. That way you can relocate the resistor to a safe spot. It will get pretty warm. You'll need at least a 5 watt resistor. Some of them have holes for screw attachments so you can mount it on a piece of metal.

Yes I already extended them and they are 50w 6 ohm and they do get warm but I still have fast blink
I think I probably have a buddy to look at those diagrams and call it a day cuz I'm stuck here I also start to think that those res need to go somewhere totally else other then the lights, somewhere before the front turnsignal and the side marker splice and go to there locations, somewhere closer to the bcm or ipdm at least for the fronts cuz what prevents the side markers from fast blink unless I have to pop those out too and then have to run 6 res rather than 4 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

but now to read those color shortcuts is like a guessing game and i cant find an explanation for them anywhere and the other thing is for examample according to wiring diagram i need connector E58 fr combination lamp LH and then wire 4 and 6 now the connector belongs to the engine room harness and it says wire 4 color is B/W and wire 6 is GR which i think is green but now it comes mine is actually green black so whats up with that also for the rest of the wires it says 3= B ? black? brown? 5= P ? purple maybe? but if so, that connector doesnt have a purple wire 7= LG ? light green or grey 8= BG what? edit: i may have looked at the wrong end i think it also sayed H.S i guess means harness side and then the wires woulactualy work out! yap figured it out thx to u guys +rep comin ur way @digi @southark! gonna redo everything on the weekend cuz i connected to the wrong wires but luckly i didnt drive the car |

BTW, there is a chart of color code abbreviations in one of the first sections of the FSM. Yep, some of them aren't exactly obvious.

K got it all done now and the funny thing was whatever I did on the fronts was still right it was a different connector ->not engine room harness side but the HL harness
So what happend was as soon as I figured out the pins and color for the rear I went ahead and hooked up a rear left light and after the complete left side blinked normal and then the same happened with the other side so I didn't have to change anything on the front! It was like u said southark I needed to hook up one complete side for it to go back to normal Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
i just installed both front & rear LED turn signals
FYI: if you swap all four sides (front L,R & rear L,R), then you need four resistors. i used four 50w 6ohm resistors. i tried two resistors at the back with all four LEDs but hyperflash continued. rears are straight forward, only two wires... but the front, at least for 2014, you need to install the resistor on the two wires with stripes, not the solid black one. |
