Yes this is ANOTHER cubby tablet build...

I'm putting in a Galaxy Note 8. I bought the tablet specifically for this build. I've had it for about two weeks and the software is running beautifully.

Using tasker, when external power is detected: the tablet wakes up, turns on GPS, turns on bluetooth, sets volume to max, sets screen to never sleep, sets screen brightness based on ambient light levels, brings up PowerAmp and hits Play.
For offline navigation I have Sygic and TomTom and Google for online navigation.
I also have TabletTalk intalled which shows me caller ID on the screen and allows me to answer/reject as well as direct dial from the tablet.

For the physical build I have shaved down the cubby pocket so it's as flat as I can get it and shaved the inside lip so the tablet will sit flush. The camera on this tablet is raised so I had to cut a hole in the cubby to get it to sit flush. I also had to buy 1/2" longer screws to screw in the top of the cubby pocket to the stock screw holes. The top of the tablet is held down by the edge of the bezel. The bottom has a zip tie running between the tablet and the rubber case it's sitting in.

I have a 3.5mm audio cable running out from the left side. For the micro USB connection I ended taking apart a desktop dock for my old Galaxy S2 and using the small micro USB equipped circuit board which fit perfectly between the tablet and the A/C vent.

For the finishing touches I'm planning on buying some thin material that I can form into a trim piece to cover the bottom and I'll probably wrap it in leather to match.

A couple of post install pictures.
I'm almost done with the install. I just need to create a trim piece for the bottom edge of the tablet/cubby.
Functionally all good so far. I'm actually surprised at the sound quality coming through the factory Bose head unit. I'm going to break it in this week and see if any surprises popup.

This is version 1 of the trim piece that I made out of bass wood and wrapped in leather. The 3M Universal adhesive I used gave out after a few hours so the leather looks a little rumpled. I'll make another when I have some time but I think it looks alright for now.
