red light and fog lights/rear

What is the purpose of these and do you need both? Do they help with backing up. Do they come stock on the newer 370z now? I see a lot of talk and discussion on the topic but it goes off on tangents. I just want up-to-date facts not 2009 problems. On the old Z you could buy higher watt bulbs for reverse. Please advise.
THANKS

The rear light is not standard on US models.
Pre-'13 had a black cover.
'13 and newer has a red cover.
JUST a cover/box/fake thingy.

We install them because we are awesome.
I think it looks cooler, I have it set up as a 4the brake light, it helps a bit when backing up because it's so damn bright.

These are mandatory in most European countries per their Transportation department. They are a "fog" light. They are not intended to come on with the brake lights. European and Canadian equipped models have an extra notch on their head light multifunction switch for a "fog light".

They were not installed on NISMO models until the 2014 year model when the rear bumper was redesigned and the NISMO was introducted officially in Europe.

These cars are already pre-wired for it. But most people just opt to do a custom wiring job and tap into the running lights, brakes, etc.

So you are saying on a Canadian model I can just use the per-wiring and turn it on with the multifunction switch?

You SHOULD be able to. The same goes for US models as well. In my experience with Nissan and Infiniti's, if the wiring is already there then it should be a "plug and play" operation.

Example: My wife's 2012 2.5S Altima DID NOT come with Fog Lights. The kit for the fog lights was just a multifunction switch and the lights themselves. All of the harnesses were already there. They were just tapped up to the chassis. I just plugged everything in and it worked. I have seen this multiple times.

The reason the USDM cars haven't done this and the presence of the multiple aftermarket alternatives is the cost. The cost of the multifunction switch itself is a deterent. To purchase the LHD Canadian Multifunction switch here in the US is difficult due to most dealerships I have worked with not wanting to deal with shipping parts cross border. If you order it through a US Nissan Dealership, these parts must be brought in through the Nissan Motorsports division (ALL JDM parts are done this way), which in itself is pretty much useless.

Cool. Thanks. Reped.

I actually have mine set up as a rear fog light (go figure), so the bunch of flaming red-neck dill weeds in my area don't rear-end me when it's foggy or raining.

oem red fog light

Does it suppose to work at all? A Friend from church says his 2012 370z backup fog light works. Does the bulb go bad or newer models come standard? I don't think I can DIY the fog light but I want to be safe backing up. I basically break everything I touch. Anybody near Jacksonville,Fl.

Unless he (or the previous owner) installed a light back there, he's wrong. There is no light back there stock. Not for USDM cars.

It's an easy swap. If you can change you oil, you can install this.

I don't know, Nissan puts 100 gallons of Loc Tite on there. I could've done 10 oil changes in the time it took me to change mine out
