No. "Cheap gas" will not nor can it make the car sound any different.

Try again.

If you filled up and this is happening you can go to a auto parts and buy a manual pump to syphon the bad gas out. And top off with Premium. If that doesn't work might try your local dealer and hang on to your wallet.

Contaminated fuel will indeed affect the way the engine sounds you can't rule it out the fuel needs to cleared as not being suspect.

Speaking of cheap gas, is it true that some states mandate 10% or greater Ethanol mixture? One of my friends with a Mazdaspeed 6 has been having issues with her car because of the 10% Ethanol. I try to avoid those pumps, but I'm wondering if it's all over the place now. :-/

What do you mean by cheap gas, lower octane? You might get some slight pinging (light ringing) like the noise you get if you lug your engine. The ECU will correct for lower octane fuel by retarding the timing of the engine but you should use a 91 or higher per the manual.

A friend of mine who is a mechanic is telling me it could be the oil that thins out to quick when it heats up which is causing the noise

Actually I use to work at a wawa "like a 7 eleven only with gas" 3 people came back complaining of knocking in the cars wawa told them to take it to your dealers if they say it is the fault of gas we will pay for it. Guess what it was the gas. Cheap gas can hurt an engine. I know I only go to BP or sunoco

Around here there are gas stations that advertise they have 100% gas.

I can tell a difference...my motorcycle runs like crap, my lawn mower does too...(pops/misses)

I imagine that a car such as ours would figure it out and adjust as needed.

Either way, they should get rid of those mandates. Put E85 and 100% gas (87/89/91, some places have 94 or 85, depending on elevation or market...)

^ I agree but I think that places like the wawa and cheap places like that should not be able to sell gas. Leave it to the good places.
