roof Vinyl
Hello Guys/Gals,
I been wanting to black out my Z's Roof with the black vinyl. I have some questions that I hope you guys can answer. Where did you get the Black vinyl, did it come precut or did you have to cut it? If you did the instal was it easy or was it hard. I could not find a DIY for this on the site. I live in El Paso, Texas Very hot summers and somewhat cold winters How long will this actually last. Will it fade and if you have the vinyl wrap on your Z has it faded or does it still look new? I do garage my car but not at work it sits outside in the sun all day long. One last thing if I decide to take it off in the future will it peel/strip off the clear coat, or paint. |
i think bats can get you either the matte or glossy black cut to a general size. you will need to trim it and tuck it into the seams.
ive done dinoc, it's not hard to do if you know wat you're doing. for standard vinyl it will be more like a clearbra/tint wet install. no idea on durability. i would assume 4-5yrs with wax/sealant on the surface. usually when you peel back after 4-5 yrs, the whole roof comes off. |

im just joking about the last line. you can heat it up nice (just leave it out in the sun) and just peel it back. then 3M adhesive remover to remove the rest of the adhesive goo.
another quick way is if you have twinturbo, you can just floor it and that usually rips it right off the roof. |
while you guys are visualizing how the twinturbo trick would work, im visualizing your facial expressions. :icon17:
huh? oh... ... wat??! :icon08: .. huh?? :ugh2: :rofl2: if you read carefully, my diy has a lot of good info in there. |

Hey Cooltoy,
A couple weeks back you did a photoshop for me: http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...Z/01v6i09c.jpg I just got my car back last week and had the roof wrapped with 3M Gloss Black. It is simply stunning (unfortunately my crappy cell phone which I took the picture with is not) http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...20Z/photo7.jpg Although it is quite simple to do and 3M Gloss black wrap can easily be bought on e-bay and various other direct sources, I had mine professionally done at a Lynx Custom here in Colorado. This is the same shop that did my tint and love their work. I'll take some better pictures tomorrow with a good camera and post up if interested. One word of caution perhaps is that you must have an absolute lint free and paint blemish free roof. Any wax should be removed for better adhesion and if you have any imperfection in your clear coat a Bar rubover might be a good idea before laying over any Gloss wrap. You will absolutely see any nick, hair, dust particle etc. I definitely like how mine turned out. Here is a general roof wrap: Audi A4 Black Roof Decal Wrap Installation - YouTube Hoping this assists! |

2 or 3/10 on difficulty. Was my first time and took maybe an hour to do everything. Ive had mine for 6 months with no signs of wear. No it will not damage paint. |

Hey guys before I wrap my roof, should I clay and wax the roof first?? Or clay and seal or just wax... Thanks!

There isn't really gonna be things to clay on the roof it's mainly the lower portion of the car...just clean it with alcohol and make sure it's dry before you apply and use 3m adhesive to avoid air bubbles around the edges

Haven't seen it posted yet, but if you've got the satellite fin it'll be trickier to wrap :tiphat:
