Torn up nismo bumper...
I just found out this noon that my front nismo bumper has been torn up.
I have no idea how it happend. Did not feel it or hear anything. I checked my car last night and the bumper was fine. So everything had to have happend since last night I parked my car at home up until coming to work today morning and going to lunch. I checked my dash camera for today's and yesterday's driving, but could not find anything. Car's been always parked toward the curb, so i don't know how anyone could hit me either. I'm very careful when i turn into corners for any curbs or potholes, so I don't know what caused this. I thought it could be a rock that hit my bumper on a highway, but that had to be a REALLY BIG rock to rip it open that hard. What mind boggles me is that it cracked open a very low spot, but the black plastic part under the actual bumper is relatively fine. I got a quote today to basically replace the bumper and the lower portion for $1800. do you guys might have a clue what really happend here? http://i313.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps64b4161a.jpg http://i313.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps08059552.jpg http://i313.photobucket.com/albums/l...psa9abd6e3.jpg |
Looks like you drove into some protrusion, probably while parking. Or someone hit you with a tire.
There are a few Nismo fronts for sale in the For Sale section (go figure). Search in there. |

Been there, done that. :ugh2: |
I was thinking that if you parked with the front facing in that it might be possible that someone doing landscaping work might have hit you truck, loading ramp, debris etc.
Sorry about that - I always wince a little when I see an injured Z. |
Yeah, $1800 sounds about right. I had to replace mine awhile back for $2000 (Canadian).
Weird that the black plastic bit is unscathed. If you always park it towards the curb, I can't see how anyone would have hit you/wheeled onto it. You would have heard/felt damage of that magnitude while driving. I'd hate to suggest it and I hope I'm wrong, but I suppose similar damage would be made if someone stomped down on it :( |
Texas - cowboy boot heel. Hmm you could be right.
|
Maybe you were listening to music while parking. You can't hear your car hitting or scraping the parking block when your music is on.

im in tx with a brand new nismo bumper for sale ;) lmk if you need it.

My first thought was that someone backed into you with a trailer hitch but the damage is much too low for that. It doesn't look like the lower piece is even scratched, so I don't think you ran into a parking stop. Let us know if you figure it out.

Is that scuff all there is? It seems some touch up paint would cover most of it
Or is that a crack below the scuff.. I can't really tell |
That's fixable, you just have to find the right shop, it should cost you half that.

update:
body shop said it's extremely low chance that I did it. running over a curb will not rip my front lip without damaging the lower plastic. he said that is a tremendous amount of force being applied downwards on the lip. not from side nor front. mind you, it does not even have a scuff. What you guys are seeing is actually my bumper literally ripped like a paper on the left side and cracked open on the right side. (hard to see) he said it looks like the front lip was ran over my someone's tires, or someone stomped on it. cracked thermoplastic is not very ideal to fix with a bondo if you want longevity |
Brutal. Sorry to hear that man. Gotta hate any car damage when you try to keep it so perfect eh.

Reviving this thread, so the total damage was ~$5000.
I was shocked. collision shop said the followings were broken: -bumper -Black plastic underside -impact absorbing syrofoam -aluminum bar that holds the styrofoam -right headlight mount -right headlight -clear bra for hood, bumper, fender I just cannot believe that small crack would cause all this. I went to the shop to make sure those were broken, and they were. edit: it's all fixed now by the way. it's been 2 months since i got my car back. i paid $250 deductible for uninsured motorists. Had to fill out texas blue form to claim that it was not my fault. Still had to pay the difference of $700 to get the OEM bumper, because my insurance co wanted to fix it. |
