I want to lock my center console since I leave my ipod in there. Can the push button be replaced with one that has a lock?

![]() And no, there isn't any sort of locking feature or aftermarket lock. You can use the glove box, which is also a joke. If you NEVER disconnect it, make a cut out in the back, or "lock" it under the center console by running a wire there. Last I remember, there was adaquate room to hide something there. It's just that updating it would be a PITA

Well I'm guessing its for car washes, valet and mechanics. I have the navigation package and the ipod hook up is located there and not the glove compartment. I wouldn't mind having a lock also. The middle compartment can barely hold anything but my ipod and phone charger, so I wouldn't have to open it much anyways.

I could make you one out of Unubtanium, wouldn't matter, a screw driver in the side and the whole crap plastic lid and side would snap and you'd be inside.

My 370Z came with door locks. All of my 240Z's have/had door locks as well -- going back to 1970.

Seems like it would become a hassle.
The only one it might end up keeping out is you? You have more keys to deal with and another question to ask yourself as you leave the vehicle, "did I leave the car on?, did I lock my center console?" Sometime I take my keys and drop them in the console. It would suck to lock them in there.(not saying you guys do the same) Anyway I would have to agree with the others that say it is pointless, but to each his own. Oh and back in the day I used to lock my glove box on my 280ZX. When they broke in, they ripped the door off completely and destroyed it so I had to buy another off ebay. It took 4 buys to find one that I was happy with. There was nothing in there to steal but papers, but because it had a lock they wanted in. |

In my 2009 I took the iPod connector out of the tray and reconnected the iPod cable to it beneath the console.
By some miracle my used Z came with the little tray/cup-holder (that fits beneath the little center tray cover) so I leave that in there. The hole where my iPod connector used to be is hidden under that little removable tray. Now my iPod is hidden beneath the console tucked next to the emergency brake mechanism, hidden from prying eyes. If I need to update the music (rarely) then I pull out my main cup-holder and it's really easy to get the iPod in and out. |
