Thanks.

How hard is it to do? Have a few more ideas but don't want to waste your time.

cooltoy 09-21-2013 12:26 AM

Hit me.

Tomorrow I think I'm going to color match the brake inlets so I don't get that triangle look with the filter inlets. And was curious what it might look like with the inlets right over the filters for max ram air, so maybe a few inches inward. And last what it'd look like to have the lower front lip black that so many do. Just thinkin...

cooltoy 09-21-2013 12:38 AM

Sorry. The brake inlets are the round things? And filter inlets are the one I put on? And you want these slightly more spread out? Did I get it right?

Sorry. Brakes are bottom. Yes filters are you, and I meant more inwards where the filters are like on a G3.

cooltoy 09-21-2013 12:53 AM

Got ya. Tomorrow night (maybe), but I'll get it done eventually.

Looking great! Ithe body-colored body vents look better to me than the black. I think it would look better if the angle on the outside edges of the upper vents was the same as the angle of the sides of the hood.

cooltoy 09-21-2013 04:30 PM

That's the way they are sold, I do believe.

roplusbee 09-28-2013 03:56 PM

Very gutsy move with the hood vent. Much props!

Felix 808 09-28-2013 07:10 PM

Sorry Synolimit, really not trying to http://images.cryhavok.org/d/13557-1/Threadjack.jpg but thought I would give you a little peak of my poject ;) Besides as far as function, your vent is going to be very hard to beat, unless you remove the hood ;)

True, but but there is a plan in place under the hood to draft out the heat & it's still in the layout process;)

Edit, a better pic has been posted

That would be some good stuff out here in TX. Heat is the number one killer of electronics.......

roplusbee 09-28-2013 07:30 PM

I wonder how this would work out with louvered type vents in the hood?

future370zzz 10-05-2013 05:08 PM

That looks good, did you use a template from the 350z nismo or custom? More pics please!

Good job OP! Looks professional.

I would have thought you would face the vents the other direction... No?

Functionally, I don't think it makes any difference. On most cars, most of the hood is at lower pressure when moving over 20-30 mph. But I haven't seen any air flow charts for the Z.

Kingbaby 10-07-2013 02:33 PM

Correct traditionally we see the vents going the other way....I did the same thing seen reposted in post #64 just that I didn't completely cut the vent out. Rather I bent the vent flap level to the ground. It's not to catch air as an intake but rather keep air moving throughout the engine bay. The nismo RS concept vents are placed so perfectly on the nismo racecar. If you crouch down and look at them you'll see that air is hitting the intake pipe/TB/manifold full on...

Is the back (against the windshield) open also?

That hood was designed by a member here (Isamu) and aero jacket made just that one for Andrews old z.

Yep. I don't know why no one picked up on the design & manufacture them. It has good function & good looks

Felix 808 10-18-2013 11:42 PM

Well it's done, hood is vented . Sorry for the lousy pics

If you want a cheap way to test under hood temps go to Walmart and buy a cheap battery powered oven/meat temperature gauge. Get one that is meant to be placed outside of the oven with a long hi temp cord attached to the meat thermometer. Or even better, a wireless unit.

Depending on the length of the cord, you may need to zip tie the gauge to your windshield wipers so you can see it through the wind shield.

I used this method to see what type of under hood temps I was getting in the master cylinder compartment (after multiple slave/clutch master cylinder failures at the track).

What I found out is that temps spike rapidly any time the car is not moving. And that it is vital to open your hood AND plastic brake and clutch master cylinder compartment cover immediately after getting off track.

Chuck33079 10-19-2013 11:59 AM

They also make stickers with dots that turn color to show what temps you hit. I can't remember where I found them, but they're out there.

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...psf685dbff.jpg

lessons learned from this is (1) I should have moved it to the edge of the hump...I slighty cut into it. Aesthetically it would of look ten times better. (2) bending the flaps would be easier if I cuted/trimmed guide on the backside of the hood with a dremel. Would of helped bend the flap easier than using force. Other than that having the proper tools made it really easy to do this.

Next is similair style on the fenders like the GTR racecars..because I'm a ricer

I got a OBDII read out and I've noticed that temp drops quicker when moving than before...

Not any more then the millions of OEM and aftermarket Evo hood guys that drive year round. Engines get dirty anywho and your plugs and harnesses are pretty water tight.

Syno do you have a picture of how the underside of yours worked out? Did you pick that spot for alignment with some of the stock bracing on the underside?
