Do what I did.
Find a shop that can make it, find out how many units they need to sell to make it worthwhile. Find out the price per unit and then get a group buy, collect the money and then get her done. |

It was a scoop for my Celica. The model was only made for Japanese M-edition Celica and was impossible to get in North America. I liked it way more then my stock one and the only way I could get it is to have a copy made. So I found a shop, gave them all the dimensions, got 10 interested people to give me the money and had it made. |

It was a shop in Calgary, so it would not help you any, but I am sure you can find a shop in your are that works in CF or FG.
So, I did a whole bunch of research since I was not able to find an actual scoop. I got hi-res pictures and made grids on printouts so I could figure out the angles and curves. I am sure this could be done electronically now using CAD or something, , but 13 years ago I did it all by hand. I also contacted people who owned the scoop in Japan to get/confirm some measurements. Once I found a shop that could was willing to take on the project, I gave them my measurements and images. A shop needs build a mold first, which is a fairly costly investment. They told me how much it would cost to make a mold and how much money they would like for each piece once it is made. Of course if you want a one off, you can pay for the mold and the piece all by your self, but that is costly, so what you do is get a group buy together and spread the cost of the mold between the participants. The cost of the piece will be the same, but the more people you get, the smaller the portion for the mold gets. The shop may even give a discount on each piece if the interest is great enough. So don't start any work, until you have a number of people committed. Collect all the money and do not pay anything out of your pocket (other then your share). Of course people will have to trust you with the money and the final product. I went by the shop several times a week, taking pictures and providing those that gave me their money with updates of the progress. It is a lot of responsibility, but you r are also doing it for yourself. You have to make sure the shop is getting things done on time, as people get antsy if there are delays. Also there is the issue of trust as people are weary of scams. It was fairly easy for me to have the trust, because I was a senior moderator on the our Celica club forum. Hope that helps. |
