Question Problem with the passenger airbag indicator.

I think this is the most appropreite location for this question.

I just noticed that when I put something or someone sits in the passenger seat the light indicates passenger airbag off. But when there is nothing in the passenger seat the light turns off, indicating that the passenger airbag is active.

What could be the cause of this?

that indicator is pretty confusing. because if the weight of the person is too little, the airbag is programmed not to depoly.

i forget if the light was on or off in my car while driving solo.

When driving the vehicle solo, the passenger airbag indicator should not be lit. I think the maximum threshold for the passenger seat sensor to trip is approximately 60 lb. If you have an average sized adult in the seat and it still indicates that the airbag is off, you likely have a problem with the SRS system.

Ok, it is off when solo. But it is lit when there is someone in it, lit as in saying it is off. I guess I'll have to go to the dealer to get it sorted.

How much does Someone weigh? If they are not putting enough weight/pressure on the seat sensor, the car assumes a child is in the seat and turns off the air bag.

My fiancee weighs 95lbs, 90% of the time the light is on, in both my '09 and '13.

Hmm, I'd be concerned because in the case of a crash, it'll mean no airbag deployment for the passenger side even when occupied, especially when it's not 100% of the time.

Mine is lit up when no one is in the seat saying that its off. When someone sits down, takes about 10 seconds and then turns off.

Same issue with my wife and others in the Z and Juke. Dealer says the weights can't be recalibrated; I wish there was a push buttton or a key to manually make sure its on.

Honestly with your girls weighing so little they are probably fairly short. with that being the case they might be better off having the airbag off anyway.

My thoughts exactly. I have my reservations about airbags and small adults/children.

That's a great point I had not considered! What is the height cutoff? If I go on a long trip may be time for the helmet and pads lol.

lol!

there have been studies that have stated anyone shorter than 5'2" and less than 120 pounds should sit far back with the seat tilted to best avoid contact with the airbag.

It does it in my family's '12 MDX too. She always wears her seat belt at my behest at least.
