Z-Speed under shroud install and review
I recently bought and received the Z-Speed under shroud. Today I installed it. A few forum members asked for a review, so that's what this is.
First and foremost, Joe at ZSpeed Performance Nissan Infiniti Specialist 240SX 300ZX 350Z G35 G37 370Z is awesome to deal with. He's very knowledgable, fast with communication, offers excellent products with great prices, and fast shipping. The under shroud comes in Silver (raw) or Black powder coat. They also include new hardware, speed clips, bolts, and plastic pins. You can upgrade the hardware to stainless steel for an additional charge. The shroud was packaged very well, opening the box revealed a protected under shroud. Top protected, bottom has protection removed, https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...76857146_n.jpg Stock under shroud vs. Z-Speed Under shroud, https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...29131043_n.jpg I weighed these with my digital scale. I would not use these as hard numbers but more of a general idea of weight. Factory shroud = 2.2lbs Z-Speed shroud = 5.6lbs Included mounting hardware, https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...83346024_n.jpg Fit was perfect. Includes hole for coolant drain, https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...66064738_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...87019577_n.jpg Also includes an access hole for easy oil changes. Plenty of space, https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...96361715_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...75265592_n.jpg Full view. https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...82605841_n.jpg Would I buy it again? Yes. It has less flex than the factory plastic piece, perfect fit, good looks, and the great customer service from Joe is the icing on the cake. NIce review. I love mine. Haven't done an oil change since I installed, but I really like not having to take the shield off and on to change the oil.
|
nice.. cant wait to order one for my car!
|
Nice work, mr.gale! Looking good!!
|
Thanks Gale! Wonderful write up. I keep hearing great things about Joe @ZSpeed.
|
Bad @ss!!! Wouldn't you still have to take it off to get to the oil filter though??
|
Website says there is room to access filter as well. Have this on my Z32 and will be ordering for my 40th AE.

It's also worth mentioning that I have an oil pan spacer on my car and the Z-Speed shroud clears it easily. |

are these shrouds any heavier than the factory plastic ones? :) |
Looks nice. Looking to get one of these down the road.
Thanks :tiphat: |

I could see it being 2lbs more |
i have this on my Z and changed the oil and filter using the trap door. Removing the shield was not necessary.

These are the weights I recorded on my digital scale. I would use these numbers as reference only as I'm sure my measuring device is not 100% accurate. Factory shroud = 2.2lbs Z-Speed shroud = 5.6lbs I have updated the OP with the weights. :tiphat: |
Thanks for the info, mr.gale.
|
Great write-up mr. gale.
Sorry to jack the thread, but could you please provide some information on your ramps? |
Raceramps with extensions.

I have the 56" ramps though because shipping the 67" ramps to Canada is ridiculous. This set up works perfectly, my front lip doesn't rub at all going up or down... the air deflectors on the other hand... being 2" off the ground, they hit everything. |

I've got the black one with SS hardware. I love it.
If you have an oil cooler with a sandwich adapter, you may need to take the whole panel off to change the oil. I've got a GTM oil cooler/sandwich plate, and that filter isn't coming off through the trap door. |
Just ordered mine today! Seeing as I will be doing my own maintenance from here on out I did not want to have to remove the crappy plastic OEM one every time. Once was enough during the sway bar install. This adds much better protection and makes oil changes a snap....if the filter isn't relocated.

Good review Gale.
Added this to my future Mod list. |
A bit of a bump but well deserved. I just installed this yesterday I got the Nismo one with the black powder coat. I have to say it is a well made product. Everything aligned up nicely with the rest of the car, that I know it should be the norm for everything to fit but some less reputable vendors have poor fitment issues, this does not, its quality workmanship IMO. It was very simple to install and only required a little bit of through to figure out how the sides installed. They provided all the bolts needed to install it so you didn't have to re uses any old parts and the bolts had a powder coating as well to help slow any corrosion. I am very happy with it, its defiantly more solid then the near $1,000 plastic from Nissan. If someone is expecting some more cooling from the aluminum and vent hole I didn't notice any difference and after about an hour of driving I got out and checked it it had pickup any amount of heat an the part was only a bit warm so there's not really any heat transfer going on.
Anyone want to buy an slightly used oem under shroud? =P |
adding this onto my mod list :-)
|
Mine arrived earlier in the week (powdercoated black), very well constructed. Also a very nice write up.
|
When installing this tray or the stock tray. You guys might want to do what I just got done doing. :D Mine has been beat on a few times.

I just did my first "legit" oil change (the first was the same day that I put on the shroud, so it doesn't really count.) It was so quick an painless that I actually enjoyed it. Joe does a fantastic job with all of his stuff. I wish I could find the write-up that he did when they developed the CSC for the 350z. It was obvious to me then, that his engineering abilities are very "sensible". If my clutch ever takes a poop, I'll be heading to Dayton to have them do the work. |
Nice write up! I have this on my wish list and it is certainly reasonably priced.

What would look best for my magnetic black 370z. shiny aluminum or black coated? Can you see it?
