370z Base Coupe radar detector wiring
Hello-
I just picked up a Passport 9500ix and I am going to go with one of the rearview mirror mounts that are available. The question I have is with the wiring. Since I don't have a power mirror, I cannot tap into it for the radar power. I am going to have to tuck the wire into the headliner and run the wire down the pillar to the fuse box, but I need to hide the wire going from the detector up to the headliner behind the mirror where I will start tucking it. My wife has a 2013 Maxima with the power mirror and it has a little black channel that runs up along the windshield behind the mirror up to the headliner to hide the wiring. I would assume the 370s with the power mirror have these too. Where can I get one of these channels or something similar to hide my radar detector power wire? I want a clean install and do not want to see a wire behind my mirror going to the headliner. Also...there are a few different mirror mounts out there with prices ranging from $30-$90. Any major advantages to the more expensive mounts over the cheaper options? Thanks, Rob |

i went with the blendmount one, a bit pricey but fits perfect and allows for operation of the manual dim. i also used their wire harness as well. as for the wire cover, not sure if those would work with the non-power mirror but you can get those at courtesy nissan

See if you can tap into your interior light, or I assume that the wiring for the powered versions of the mirror is up there somewhere and you don't have to run the wire from here to hell and back again.
I was lucky, used the blend mount and the rj11 connector on the beltronics to wire my detector. Funny thing, I have had several people in the car and no one ever noticed the radar detector sitting there out in the open. Buy the way, there is something in the DIY section that shows how to use a reflector mount for a bicycle to mount the detector the same as the too expensive blend mount. rg Jim |

Thanks for the responses. Has anyone tried to wire a radar detector into the interior lights yet? Sounds like it's doable and I could follow instructions to get it done, but not something I would want to be the first to try.
Thanks, Rob |

Why interior light? Its going to turn itself off after the delay.
I would research the various mirror pinouts and use the blend mount and those short tap wires. I personally installed the gentex mirror with homelink, compass, blendmount and that invisicord or watever. |

The Base Coupe has no homelink or power in the mirror whatsoever, there are no mirror pinouts...hence why I am asking about wiring through the map light power. The only other option for me to running down the pillar to the fusebox or under the center console.
Thanks, Rob |

The FSM will have all the wiring diagrams, connector pinouts, wire colors, &c. Will even tell you if the roof lights have power when the car is on.

There's a DIY for a mount replacement that uses the base of a bicycle reflector. Really creative and cheap! The bike reflector is 2$ at a local bike shop

But wat I am saying is why not do it right and wire up a gentex mirror and do the blendmount and invisicord or watever its called. Both are easy to do and diy available here. |

@kenchan, I also have the base rear view mirror. Are the features of the gentex really worth the 260$?

I just installed a gentex 453 that I got ebay. I bought the wiring kit as well and the passport hardwire kit for my radar detector. The little black piece that hides the wires behind the mirror is available on ebay as well. I used two add-a-circuits from autozone and plugged them into the ciglighter fuse for ignition and the dome fuse for constant, grounding to a bolt by the fuse box. Then just run the wire along the pillar, just tuck it in near the weather stripping, then run along the headliner. I just spliced the radar detector wire into the mirror power lines and I was finished.
