NO!!!!! The number percentage is based on how much light gets in! For example, 25% tint means it only lets 25% light in! 70% is NY law too, it basically is what comes out from the factory! Anything more than that is illegal in NY and CA! Believe it or not, the factory puts a tint on your car windows when it comes out which only lets 70% light in, if you have ever used a tint meter you will see!

Who is tinting their front window?

(Yes, you have it done if you know the right people. Window tinters' do it to their own vehicles, but they typically use the lightest tint to avoid being pulled over. They do it to help save the dash.)

Tinting the windshield is retarded, IMHO. Buy some sunglasses.

Those of you in Cali, just claim that the 20% tint is some new solar panel and it absorbs light and stores it in the battery or something. You have all the energy nuts, mostly, so I am sure they would love that idea.

It's not about glare, as it is the lightest tint—it's about the sun damage to the interior through the front windshield.

Oh .. Florida has tint laws .. they were big on enforcing it in the 90's but have become pretty lax these past few years. Note, however, my cousin drove his with 5% all the way around (including windshield) for 4 years before getting ticketed and thus having to remove the tint from the windshield.

FL definitely has tint laws. I have limo all around (except windshield), and have been stopped several times.

What do you usually tell the cops to get out of a ticket and/or court date?

Yea, I am only familar with NY Vehicle and Traffic law, but it seems like every car I see with a FL plate here in NY always has tints, so I made that assumption!!! Hmmm.....what do you tell a cop??? Please dont say, "I bought the car like this!"....because it doesn't matter they are still illegal and your driving with them!....just say nothing and pay the ticket or remove the tints....here in NY if you remove them within 24 hours and bring it to a PD the ticket gets dropped!...not sure how any other states work!

Limo tint is just asking to be pulled over, and only making a car with little visibility already, that much worse.

be nice and straight up. don't lie and be real. normally if the police officer is nice, he would just give out a warning.

other times, if you know the law and the officer is just trying to handout tickets, ask him for his badge id# and ask to talk to his watch commander and let the watch commander know that you will file a formal complaint.

the watch commander is actually the one responsible for the actions of the police officers, so the complaints are actually on the watch commander's head and not the actual police officer giving you the ticket.
