Nailed it :)

The reason you're not supposed to tint the front windshield is because if (for whatever reason) you or someone else goes through the windshield, the glass will break apart instead of staying together (which is what caused a lot of decapitations). That's why it's extremely easy to break the glass from the inside of the car, but VERY difficult to break it from the outside.

I don't want to go through my windshield with or without tint, so I'll keep on wearing the seatbelt.
Not going through windshield = Plan "A" :icon17:

That sounds like a plan!

I'm planning on doing 30% all around and 60% on the front windshield. Ceramic Huper Optik is awesome.

LOL! Yeah, plan A is a good plan. I was just informing you why it's illegal. I (also) plan to tint my front a little... Not a lot though, just enough to keep glare out.

5% tint is illegal unless you have a limo or some serious light sensitivity issues where I am. Looks cool in the daytime, but you will likely have considerable visibility issues at night. I know a guy with 5% tint on the sides of his car, and he has to roll down the windows at night to see anything on the sides. All of that, combined with the increased attention you will get from the police is just not worth it.
I personally have ~30% on the sides and 20% on the rear window. Windshield tint is just annoying IMO and pointless.

Just got 15% done on the sides and the back. This is my first tinted car and I'm still getting somewhat used to it. Hopefully the other cars are paying attention when I'm backing out at night. :<

25% all around and a 32% strip on the windshield.

Just got mine done today. 25% all around (except windshield)...

batman_4 02-25-2009 01:05 PM

i will be going 25% (maybe 20%) on side windows only (exclude the little window behind the side windows) and 20% on the rear window.

chrishfic 02-25-2009 04:32 PM

having tint done right now as as we speak. I went with the solar gard ultra performance 75 tint film. Not really liking tint to begin with but this one is light and rejects 40% of solar energy as to limo tints 42% and rejects 99% uv rays same as limo. Keeping my car cooler and prevent my interior from fading was my concern. I had all windows done.

arcticreaver 02-27-2009 04:24 PM

i read the tint laws for california. it says that its legal if more than 70% of light is let in. does that mean i can get 25%-30% tints?
