First mod

So I picked up my Z on Friday, and my first weekend project was to hardwire my radar detector. I got bored in the process and came up with this:

Before:

After:

I like to leave the auto mute feature off, now I have an easy way of muting the detector without having to reach towards the windshield.

Added my best attempt at a DIY.

I thought it would be simple, disassemble the hardwire kit, drill some holes and slap it in there... After reaching the point of no return (holes drilled) I realized that I needed to further modify the switch blank to fit the circuit board... A bit of work with a dremel and she fit like a glove.

thats pretty bad arse. You did a really good job with mounting it in that switch blank. That crap looks factory....

Can we get a more in-depth DIY type up about this, or is there already one... ? Are Radar detectors really worth it nowadays? I mean with the advancements in laser detector tech. and such now, seems like they are a thing of the past... and as always are only warning you hey there is a cop, and he already saw you?

one word - AWESOME.;tup: I have the same radar detector. Possible DIY?:excited:

I took a few pictures, I'll see if I can fill in the gaps and go from there.

I need to do this too. What model passport detector do u have? What all did you need to have? Is there a kit or something?

I have an Escort 8500 X50, although I will be upgrading to the 9500 shortly.

The only thing you need is the "Direct Wire - SmartCord". You can get them at most places that sell the detectors themselves, or directly from escort.

Aside from that, tools include, Fingers, Drill, Exact-o Knife, & a Dremel.

Any chance you can post the pics that you have for this DIY. I would live to do this with my 9500i.
