Someone hit my car

Hey everyone, tonight while at work a fellow employee came in and told me that his brother had just backed into my car. :shakes head: Anyways here is the damage, it fúcked up my fender pretty good and the clips for my bumper are shít now as well. I can't lose the bumper because of all of the modifications that I've done to it, there would be no way to "transfer" them to a new bumper. I want to get some cf paint matched vented fenders now so how would I make that happen? He has full coverage so I'm just wondering what should I do now.

Sorry to hear. Just take your car to a reputable body shop and they'll take care of it. They should be able to repair your old bumper.

:iagree: doesn't look TOOO bad, and thank god they owned up to it!

Check your headlight! They crack easily

Grindkiezer 07-30-2013 02:29 AM

Yeah when I went out to look at the car I turned on the headlights, driving lights, and blinkers and everything worked fine. I'm going to get an estimate tomorrow so we'll see what happens. The pic doesn't do it justice on the fender however. It looks like only the paint had been chipped but the a majority of it is dented and misshaped now which is why I was thinking of just getting after market fenders. Is that too must of a stretch?

Well you need A fender for sure, not even worth the time to repair it.
Go aftermarket, why not? And I'd ask the guy if he wants to go out of pocket or through his insurance before you call and file.

Btw, I'm not saying the light won't work, I'm saying that it'll let water in.

/Angelo350Z/ 07-30-2013 04:56 AM

^^ Agreed on the new fender. The less filler on your car, the better.

/Angelo350Z/ 07-30-2013 05:17 AM

This is for you OP, just to make you feel better.

Elan 07-30-2013 07:12 AM

Sorry about that OP. :( At least it wasn't a hit and run. It takes a man to admit something like this. Throw on a new fender. The bumper looks like it can be repaired. Good luck.

C4Calvin 07-30-2013 07:54 AM

:crying: Sorry to see and hear. :(

fonzo179 07-30-2013 08:00 AM

That is vicious, man. I'm siding with Elan on this one: it looks like the bumper can be repaired. Rock the new fender and keep the ball rolling. Sorry again for the trouble.:shakes head:

DIGItonium 07-30-2013 08:12 AM

Looks like the bumper can be repaired, but there's a possibility the part that screws into the fender is ripped off.

c41006 07-30-2013 11:19 AM

Ouch!

Grindkiezer 07-30-2013 11:25 AM

Thanks everyone for the input. What was surprising to me was that the guy that hit me came and told me that he liked my new cf sideblades that I had just put onto my car. So he had obviously seen the car that day but somehow must have forgotten it was right behind him? But I will try and check my headlight for any cracks and let you guys know what happens

yeah I told him that we could go around insurance if he wanted to but he said for a car like mine he'd rather go through the insurance? Not exactly sure why but either way it will be fixed

eastexZ 07-30-2013 09:53 PM

Wow.... Sorry too see that happen. Looks like the tab on your bumper cover might be torn. Glad to see him come let you know what happened.

Grindkiezer 07-30-2013 10:09 PM

Yeah one of the tabs is torn, but hopefully they can do something about it. I meant to take a better picture today but was preoccupied but the damage is a little more severe then the picture makes it seem. And the brother of the driver and the registered owner of the car is a major car enthusiast so I don't think a hit and run ever crossed his mind, thankfully he wasn't driving his M5 otherwise there would be 2 pissed employees

224NismoZ34 07-30-2013 11:55 PM

Ouch.. looks like the bumper is fixable though! It should buff right now out ;)

Grindkiezer 08-06-2013 01:08 PM

Update: Got a hold of the insurance company and got the estimate for the damage to my car. ~$2,600, I was thinking that that was a pretty hefty amount and then went to get an appraisal from an auto body shop that I have been to in the past. One shop quoted me $2,450 and another at $1,900. Supposedly because of my bumper tabs being broken "by law" they need to replace my front bumper. I told the shop that I'm not getting a new bumper and to repair NOT replace it. I think that this is why I was saved some money but regardless the "extra" money went towards some new aero jacket fenders so I still break about even.

Good call. I'm sure you would have gotten a "new bumper" from them. Aka just repair the tabs and pocket the money.

red2010z 08-06-2013 01:18 PM

You shall love the fenders I got the same fenders from AeroJacket and they are dope!

Yeah I guess the first estimate was soo high because they had incorporated a new bumper and to paint it. But then I would have gone wayy over budget to get my fenders so now I may only be coming out of pocket $100-200 which I'm okay with. Thankfully though I know the guys at the second shop pretty well from going to them in the past to just have parts painted so they gave me ideas on how to save some money. Don't see that very much

6spd 08-06-2013 01:55 PM

You'll take a big hit on trade in value in the future with an accident on your carfax.

FWIW, if you report an accident and a police report is filed, even if you don't file an insurance claim, it still shows up on carfax. Found that out the hard way this past weekend......

Grindkiezer 08-06-2013 02:03 PM

Yeah I know, I had an accident on my old car and that killed the value. I don't think that a police report was filed though and I haven't claimed anything with my insurance but again I'm not too sure how all of that works. But regardless I know that the value of the car will be affected but let's just hope if I get rid of the car in the future I can do a private sale

Z-Girl 12 08-06-2013 02:05 PM

Sucks, but definitely could have been worse.

Thankfully he hit the part on my car that I have been meaning to replace with aftermarket parts ;) So I took this as a sign that now is the time to do it  I just hate not being able to drive my car!

I've heard of people getting extra money out of insurance companies for depreciation after an accident. You should at least check into it.

Having the other party's insurance company give me a lump some of $2,600 and getting a deal from the autobody shop for $1900 but $700 still needed to order aftermarket fenders, I was hoping that if the shop had ordered the parts for me that the insurance company could cover the $100-200 difference. I know that it isn't much but I mean why not? For my trauma and suffering ;) But I was told that the insurance company would only cover stock parts :shakes head: Anyone know if that's true? But like I said it doesn't really matter cause she'll be back soon enough

Chuck33079 08-06-2013 08:46 PM

It's called diminished value. Worth asking about.

It will kind of depend on the state. In Kansas, there is a requirement that the owner must be 'made whole'. That usually means that the car must be repaired to like new and the owner paid for decreased value of the vehicle. Talk to the insurance commissioner's office to get the straight scoop.

axmea? 08-21-2013 05:14 PM

So is your car fixed with the AeroJacket fender?

Grindkiezer 08-21-2013 05:55 PM

Update: Finally got my fenders from AeroJacket today. It took almost 2 weeks just to be shipped and arrive in San Diego. Why so long?? My questions exactly. I got a call from the shipping company that said that they got the shipment but would not be able to deliver it until tomorrow. Fûck that Shît. So I drove down to San Diego and picked the parts up myself so that I could hurry up and get the ball rolling on this repair since I go back to school on Monday and would like my car sooner than later. I took the parts and my car to the shop where I am going to get the repair done and dropped it off to "start" the process. I was feeling hopeful until about 10 minutes ago when the shop owner/my buddy called to inform me that these fenders are shît and that they have no lines to them and that I should look into getting a different pair. But he knows how long it took just to get these so he said if I wanted I could just have them try and "fix" the fenders I brought in.

And that's where I am right now, I told them that since the parts came out of a mold that another pair would be the same. I'm not going to deal with Aero Jacket nor complain because it's not worth my time. I've waited longer for the parts then I thought could be humanly possible especially when they're located a little North of me. So with any luck I'll have my car back next month  (Not) :shakes head: Because of the poor quality of these fenders it's gonna take a lot of time and a lot more money to get them to where they need to be.

I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks

axmea? 08-21-2013 06:55 PM

They build it after it is ordered. Faster if you pick it up in Gardena. Sorry to hear about the wait.

Grindkiezer 08-21-2013 07:32 PM

I know that they're made to order, that wasn't the problem. They came "out of the mold" about 4 days after I ordered them, but then sat wrapped and ready to ship in their office for over a week because the shipping company hadn't picked it up yet. When I finally contacted them about picking it up, it was already in route. Axmea did you have a lot of fitment issue and also idk if you saw my comment but where did you get those vents in the fenders?

axmea? 08-21-2013 07:58 PM

Fitment of the fenders was spot on. No odd gaps or lines. I heard from some that aftermarket fenders aren't consistent and require pro shops to tweak and mod to fit. Sorry about your experience.

Grindkiezer 09-01-2013 03:46 PM

And....she's back!

Finally after about a month I got my car back a couple days ago
A few issues throughout the whole ordeal but in the end I'm happy :)

These fenders didn't have the mesh molded to the bumped and so I had bought the mesh myself and was planning to drop it off at the body shop so that they could paint it and mold it in for me. But between school, work, and always driving a different car I would never have the time to drop it off so when I got the phone call saying that my car was finished and that the fenders were already on the car so they wouldn't be able to put the mesh on for me I thought I was SOL. But I finished installing them myself this morning (which sucked) by squeezing though the wheel well lined and trying to shape and attach it. So here she is :tiphat:
