Yaw sensor switch

Hello guys, i am planning to put this switch to turn on/off the yaw sensor....

Aircraft Style Red Flip Cover Toggle Switch 12V Racing Switch | eBay

It says 25A DC: 12V Do you think it will be fine or i should go with another one?

Wonka2581 07-23-2013 05:22 AM

In for pics after install...

Running a similar one for my ignition, should not be a problem.

12VDC is just right and 25A is more than enough for your application. You are good to go.

what wire on the sensor are you using to disable it?

i havent figured it out yet... if someone knows please tell us :D

It depends if you want to cut the positive or negative. I believe the positive is the orange wire.

Look at the wiring diagram(s) in the FSM. Link in my sig.

Since the ad doesn't specify the contact configuration, I'm assuming it's SPST (Single-Pole, Single-Throw). If it turns out to be a DPST (or DPDT) (Double-Pole, Single- or Double-Throw, respectively), just break both wires.

So has anyone figured this out yet? I was eager to do some spirited driving last night and when i went to get a little sideways i lost power... maddening

SouthArk370Z 07-25-2013 06:09 PM

From the 2009 FSM, pages BRC-76 and BRC-79:
Yaw Rate Sensor connector: M143
M143-1: Ground (B)
M143-2: CAN (Y)
M143-3: CAN (SB)
M143-4: Power (G)

Putting the switch on the power input should do the trick (but I don't guarantee it). I can't remember the color code off the top of my head but I think G = Green. Make sure you don't kill the power to the steering-angle sensor, it gets its power from the same harness connector as the yaw sensor, M6.

According to page BRC-79 of the 2009 FSM, pin 1 is furthest away from the indexing tab.

i connected the yaw sensor to the toggle switch...everything works fine but, when i close the cap the yaw sensor turns off and when i open the cap the yaw sensor turns off :) it should be the opposite way but i dont know how to do it....anyone has an idea?

Gongrats on getting it working. :tiphat:

It may help to rotate the flip cover 180 degrees. Remove the nut that retains the cover assembly, rotate the cover assembly (you may have to file off an indexing tab on the plate), replace nut.

Do you get any alarms on the dash when the yaw sensor is turned off?

dimitarm 08-10-2013 08:30 AM

i will try that :) when i turn off the yaw sensor there are two icons appearing, one for the traction control and the other is the esp...when i turn back on i need to restart the engine in order the two icons to disapear...i hope u understand me :)

I understood well enough. Not sure what an "esp" icon is but all I wanted to know is if _something_ came on to let one know that the yaw sensor had been turned off. Thanks for the feedback.

PS: turning the cover may not do anything. Depends on the design of the cover. Most covers I've worked with didn't actuate the switch, just something to keep you from bumping the switch. I have seen a few that would force the switch handle to a certain position and I'm guessing that is what you have.

dimitarm 08-10-2013 08:43 AM

esp = vdc... and yes that is the type of switch that i have (when i push the cover down it forces the handle in certain position) so you are saying that rotating the switch will do the work?

I don't know that it will fix the problem but it's worth a try - it has worked before.

Rotate just the shield. Loosen/remove the nut that holds the shield assembly on the threaded shaft that the operator (handle you move to turn on/off) goes into, turn the shield assembly 180 degrees, tighten/replace nut.

dimitarm 08-10-2013 09:51 AM

problem solved :D thanks for the advice....just one more thing left...the light doesnt work...do you know what should i do to make it work?

SouthArk370Z 08-10-2013 11:53 AM

If there is a third terminal on the switch, it is probably for the LED. If not, I'm not sure.

A wiring diagram would be a big help but you should be able to figure it out with a VOM or diode checker.

dP3NGU1N 08-10-2013 12:59 PM

Quick question. With the yaw sensor off do you still have to hit the button to turn off traction control is or does that stop working along with the yaw sensor? Can we basically ignore that button from now on?

dimitarm 08-10-2013 02:27 PM

it works together with the yaw sensor....

Yaw Sensor Switch installed! Everything is working fine except for the led.i couldnt make it work because when i turn the lever up the led turns off, and when i put the lever down it lightens up....but i dont mine, its fine to me without led :)

Also i took pictures of the 3 braces that my father made ( they are not bought, he made them all by himself)....

Ive bought this shift light from raptor performance but i dont know where to put it... :)

The Z already has a shift light in the dash.

HELP - fuse?

I was doing this mod and installing an LED rocker switch, when i accidentally touched a wire to the hand brake bolt. I got a nice spark and now I'm having all sorts of issues:

- ABS light on
- VDC light on (even with cut wire reconnected)
- key fob light on
- tpms light on

The car will start fine, but the push button isn't responsive in trying to turn the car off.

Did I fry a bunch of electronics or is there a blown fuse that I'm missing??
:crying::crying::crying:

IIRC, there are two fuse blocks: one near to the driver door hinge (easy to get to) and the other next to the battery (PITA to get to).

The FSM will have wiring diagrams, diagnostic procedures, fuse locations, &c.

Disconnect the battery when doing electrical work.

Last, if you could turn the sensor 90 degrees, it would not not have any input?

Thanks Pokey. I got it figured out in another thread. I forgot about the large fuse box in the battery compartment. Then after going for a spin around the neighborhood, the other items fixed themselves.

Sounds Like you either blew the ABS fuse or actually Fried the ABS control Module. Same issues if you disconnect the connector that goes to the module.
