VIS Carbon Hood Fitment and Quality Issues?

So I order this VIS Vented Carbon Hood from Andy's Motorsports and after 3 weeks it finally came in today. Before taking it out of the box I notice a Ding in the hood and after placing it on the car the fitment was horrible. Huge gaps from one side to the other and one side is higher than the other. This is not what I would expect from VIS. So I call Andy's Motorsports and explain to them the issues with the hood and the guy chuckles and tells me that 8 out of 10 have issues. At that point I'am like wtf, that info would have been helpful before ordering.. He then proceeds to tell me that the Varis Carbon Hoods are a lot better but cost a lot more. Kinda pissed that I wasn't told this before ordering but the guy from Andy's did offer a discount of $130 Anyone else have Fitment issues with VIS ? :icon14::icon14:

So are you returning it?

Wonka2581 07-19-2013 08:12 PM

Oh he'll no! I would tell them to send you a hood that fits and ding free, or a refund....

Akbubba47 07-19-2013 08:26 PM

they will probably blame the ding on shipping.... hope it was shipped with insurance. also, ive never had any issues with seibon, so if you do return it, and dont want to spend varis money, id look into seibon. good luck ma'am

Jasonle 07-19-2013 08:34 PM

that sucks man. I asked around before buying my hood to see how many ppl had issues and everyone I talked to told me they didn't have any fitment issues. Hope you can get a refund on this.

COSMO 07-19-2013 09:17 PM

Tomorrow Iam planning on calling them back to see what other options they are willing to offer since they are well aware of many other people having the same issues with the VIS Carbon Hoods... Keep your fingers crossed they will offer a full refund since this isn't my fault and it shouldn't cost me anything for that reason. Will keep you posted and thanks for the input..

VIS and Seibon are always 50/50

EZT 07-20-2013 12:16 AM

My vis hood is perfect, is Andy's Motorsport similar to Andy's autosport? Because I always heard super negative things about them.

Good words to live by lol

nismo13807 07-20-2013 03:51 AM

if i recall.. VIS used to be good many many years back untill they went with cheaper quality and everything started going down hill from there.. started having tons of complaints about the hood bubbling up, turning yellow, and horrible fitment.. after that.. most people start going for seibon which is alot better from what i can see when i had one comparing it to my friend's VIS hood couple years back.. hope u can get your refund back

COSMO 07-20-2013 10:00 AM

Sorry I got the name mixed up, it is Andy's Autosport..

There's your problem

Csprad12 07-21-2013 01:07 AM

I love my VIS hood. No problems at all

OMGWTFBBQ 07-21-2013 09:26 AM

The only carbon hoods I would recommend are Varis or Amuse. Fitment, quality, finish, everything is spot on and flawless. Then again I might be a little biased. ;)

COSMO 07-22-2013 11:34 AM

Just an update on my hood issue. I had a chance this morning to take it to a paint and body shop to get an estimate on fixing the Ding in my hood and to have it painted. The estimate was just over $400 for material and labor. So I send lots pics of the fitment issues to Andy's Auto Sport and the guy didn't seem like he wanted to help and recommended me sending them ever more pics. (I think he was being a prick since I already sent them plenty of pics showing all of the flaws in the hood they sold me) At that point I told him he had enough pics and I wanted atleast half of what it was going to cost to fix. Then he told me I had 3 options.
1. Allow them to refund me the shipping cost which was $130
2. Take more pics and fight VIS on the issues
3. Send the hood back at MY cost and them charge me a 10% restocking fee

Iam so ******* pissed right now. For anyone considering ordering from Andy's Autosport I would recommend shopping elsewhere. !@#$%^&*()

Chuck33079 07-22-2013 11:36 AM

Your best bet is to take the $130 refund. That's all you'll ever get out of those crooks. The problems with Andy's are well documented. Take whatever you can get and get it fixed locally. If you ship it back, I doubt you'll get much of a refund AND you'll be out a hood.

Here is one of the pics I sent them.. Notice the Gaps and the Ding!!!!

Chuck33079 07-22-2013 11:55 AM

That's pretty awful. Can your body shop get it to look right? If so, I'd let them have at it. They've got a better shot at fixing it than Andy's does at fixing the transaction.

VIS worked out well for me. The CF has been painted OEM black but fitment was legit:

small gap just in the front but not enough to even really notice

EDIT: you can see the gap a bit better from this angle, though still not bad imo

At this point I just sent them an email to take option 1. Will let you know what happens..

Chuck33079 07-22-2013 12:12 PM

Good luck. Hope it all works out.

Jasonle 07-22-2013 12:36 PM

Good luck man!

COSMO 07-22-2013 12:37 PM

Hey that's a Great looking G37 and it seems you managed to get one of the good hoods from VIS.. I sent Andy's an email back to let them know Iam going with Option 1 but I have yet to hear anything back. It seems they are giving me the silent treatment now. Hell maybe they read this thread and decided to not giving any of my options which wouldn't surprise me...

Chuck33079 07-22-2013 12:38 PM

I doubt it's from this thread. That's just how they do business as a rule.

COSMO 07-22-2013 12:59 PM

Being self employed for 16 years now just don't understand how some of these businesses stay afloat when they suck-@ss....

Thanks . Best of luck with it all. I hate when these things happen... I never dealt with their support team (and after reading your thread I'm glad I didn't). Hopefully they remedy the situation...

Thats sad to hear. I feel when it comes to car parts your tailoring to a community that talks to eachother. And when you give bad business it'll quickly spread through the community. And thats not good for your business, so why give bad service?

I gave all the negative feed backs a useful hit so others can be aware of this BS company.

COSMO 07-22-2013 03:17 PM

Well Iam a little more calm downed now since I just received an email back from another person from Andy's. The email seemed sincere about the issues but still awaiting to see if I am refunded any of my money back. I dropped the hood off at my local paint and body shop and I should have it back by Friday.. Will post up pics when its finished...

COSMO 07-22-2013 04:43 PM

Update: After a kind email from Eric from Andy's Autosport they have refunded $300 of my money in which I am more than happy with. The credit should go through in a few days but Iam confident there will be no problems.
As a side note, thank you for all who have help me resolve this matter because bad news travels faster than good news. Power of the people is the greatest and this forum ROCKS!!!! This is by far the best car forum I have ever been a member of... I will follow up with this thread with some pics when I get the hood back from the shop....

$300 is a bit more legit, I'm amazed they pulled through kinda.
Even though I'm Andrew, I'm STILL not buying anything from Andy's Anything ever.

And :iagree: best forum by a mile
