The diffuser is not the engine undertray. Its a big piece of smooth black rubber that's molded to fit the underside of the front bumper. It fits like a lower lip and has both aesthetic and functional utility. I don't know why Nissan calls it a diffuser but that's what the parts gal researched for me. Once the diffuser is fastened onto the bottom of the bumper, the stock engine undertray can now be fastened to the diffuser. Without the diffuser, you won't be able to attach the undertray (either the Nismo or stock undertray).
My bumper is on already but I'll see what I can do about getting some pics posted. Might be a little while, as I don't own a digital camera. All my money goes to my car
I've attached a diagram that included the diffuser. Its labeled in red.

Well I am about three weeks late on my answer that i said i would have.. My car was recently in the nissan owners body shop directly behind the nissan dealership for warranty work to paint my front bumper do to my bumper color being way off. The shop is Performance AutoBody in Smithtown, NY ....

I was going to inquire about the bumper when I picked up my car and to my suprise there was my Z and another black sport Z sitting there with the nismo bumper on it.. I asked them all about it and they said it was just about $1,000 in parts total. His car was in a wreck and needed massive work so I am sure he had no problem getting these parts with 15k+ damage on the car , which was covered by insurance.

I looked over the entire bumper, from where the lip was and along the fender walls, and it looked completely factory... It seemed as if the under spoiler or diffuser is very neccasary.

It did not look as if they fabricated anything on the fender walls EXCEPT it seemed like they had put screws about every 3-4 inches with some type of device because they were in there real snug and it wasnt a screwdriver head or a bolt than can be taken out with a socket. If that person has to remove there fender wall they may run into a little difficulty but either way it looked great

Im not sure if this is someone on here's 370z but it still had the temporary sticker on the window and was coming out of the shop with 15k+ damage but it does look pretty slick. Not the route I would want to take to get this bumper, but in the end his car did look good

Here are some pics taken with my iphone camera , so they are horrible quality.

In my opinion it looks great, but for the $1,000 in parts + paint/labor to just get the bumper it may not be worth it. And from what it seems like to me, I would def not reccomend this install without all the proper parts required.

But anyone in NY area looking to do this upgrade this is the second one this shop has done and they said it was a breeze to do just pricey. And yes it clips in and connects to the car just as our stock bumper cover does.

I would go for a front lip and the Nismo rear bumper.

I love the look of just the front bumper; I would add the side sills if they are any different I cant really tell if they are or not; The 370Z looks so much better with the Nismo front bumper and I prefer the sport spoiler to the Nismo spoiler, I think; Will definitely be doing this with my car

Finally got some pics. Apologize for the poor quality. They looked better than this when I shot them but it was cloudy out.

Thanks! I thought so too. I'm going to put some high rez shots in the album as soon as the weather changes and I get my hands on a good camera. The only problem I've had is the sealing strips becoming partly detached where the top of the rear under spoilers meet the bumper. Its not dangling loose or anything, but its not completely flush all the way around anymore. In retrospect I probably should have tried to clean the wax off my rear bumper before I had the dealer install the kit. Only car crazy people would notice it, though.

I had the same thought, but I think it just needs the nismo rear bumper. It also stick out further than stock and would balance the length visually. If I do this I'll probably do both front and rear.

I gave some serious thought to adding the Nismo rear, but then I thought if I did that, I'd have to replace the stock spoiler with the Nismo spoiler as well. IMO, the lines of the Nismo rear bumper square off the back of the Z so much so that the stock spoiler would just look out of place sitting on top of it.

Since the Nismo spoiler set runs about $2,500 or so, I thought the project was getting too expensive. In the end, I just couldn't visualize the stock spoiler working well with this:

I'd love to drop it but I'm afraid it wouldnt be very practical around here. I can't even pull into my work parking lot as is for fear of scraping. I have to park at the hotel next door. Thankfully they don't object.
I'm not sure what "spacers" do?
