Samsung Galaxy Tablet install with Bose system and Navigation unit
Just mounted up a Galaxy tablet... I have the bose system and holy hell was it easy!
Needed: Tablet: Why a Galaxy? - Expandable memory, only $170... AUX to RCA cable: Amazon.com: Sirius Satellite 6 feet Auxilliary Input Cable Stereo Mini-Jack to 2 Male RCA: Car Electronics ^I recommend getting a 90 degree aux cord that has the smallest head possible. I stripped a straight head and made it 90 deg. but if you are wanting plug and play, get something like what I linked above. 12v - usb adapter: Fosmon 2100mAh Dual Port USB Car Charger for Apple iPad 2 / the New iPad - White - Newegg.com ^The Car charger should be dual port so that you can still use it to charge a phone. It needs to have a 5v output at 2a for proper charging of the tablet. Bluetooth super mini (to run torque): Can be found on ebay and such... Heavy duty double sided tape No cutting of the super expensive NAV shroud... Keeps the (now useless) NAV control interfacel but adds lighting This shows the super easy route if you have the bose system and can live with it. Turns on and STAYS on only while charging. Turns off after set time to turn off display (I did after 2 minutes of inactivity)... Damn thing was stupidly easy to install and all I have to do it switch to "AUX" setting on the radio lol Downsides with my install with bose system: Nothing sound wise Can't see what the fan setting is for AC and heat Can't see what temp settings are at Can't see radio stations if using regular radio Can't see XM/ Sirius stations if using radio Can't see any normal function if NOT using the tablet... Do I find it annoying? -No, I use the tablet to do everything. Looks clean like the stock NAV unit and gets cooler and cooler everyday! Questions? Please ask! I am constantly making changes to this. Thanks, Andrew Last edited by AWSneer; 07-08-2013 at 01:51 AM. |

Pretty cool stuff! Might want to amend the title to say NAV since there are lots of Bose without NAV but your thread is about installing a tablet in a NAV system.

so.. it doesn't affect sound?
this just seems like a terrible idea. i mean why even bother? you can't see the temp, the fan settings, none of the features the nav comes with.. i mean..... wtf. it's such an integral piece. points for creativity i guess |

As far as temp and fan speed go, I know cold is cold and hot is hot! Turn the fan speed to low, it stays low... Turn it up, it goes up! If you are like me and got stuck with the factory NAV unit (i see it as a burden) you have no choice but to completely change everything when you want to address one issue. User interface is useless in these NAV pieces because it is constantly outdated because of how fast the app world moves with tablets and smart phones. All information you actually need from that unit is already displayed and set using the gauge on the left side of the cluster, so that's that. Now, If you like using your factory NAV better than using siri or google maps then don't put a tablet in... I also like to watch movies, music videos, play games etc (not necessarily while I drive obviously) perhaps on lunch breaks and such, so this works out great for me. I have more music capabilities with the tablet vs. the NAV screen, I have the capability to run any and all applications available on the android market I can even create an alarm system with this tablet if I wanted to. I can pt a new background screen on the tablet for every page i'm on rather than the radio station or map, I can track a laptime and monitor how I'm driving on each corner with the tablet... Can you do that with your factory NAV unit? I don't care about the simple mundane functions all cars can do, I unlock new ways (usually better ways) to update and create a better driving experience for myself. Did your factory NAV unit update when the new street was made or the new highway connection was completed? No... unless you paid $200 to update it, lol Sorry... you asked lol Last edited by AWSneer; 06-26-2013 at 03:33 PM. |

ok, that makes more sense lol.. i mean, i like my nav for the most part. i just didnt want an aftermarket headunit, due to working on / around military installations theres shady people that like to steal stuff. lol
yours blends in nicely though, and those features are pretty awesome, the tablet stuff is very cool. i wonder if you could make an app that controlled the A/C and everything? now that would be AWESOME lol i just couldn't get past that stuff not working |
