No more Stillen Lip?

So I went to the Stillen site to see what kind of braces they were selling with the lip now. Not so I could buy from them, but so I could buy from someone else since they won't address the issue that so many of us are having.

Yes...I have a pouty lip.

But, the only lip listed on their site is now a Seibon. Hmmm...Did they finally realize they had a problem & pull it?

Anyway. Since mine is saggy now and I'm scared it will put so much downforce on the front of the car that it might rip it off, I guess I'll go the braces route. I prefer the cleaner look, but don't know what else to do since my underbrace idea didn't work. Any tips on braces? I do remember someone on here had done them - I'll just have to search & figure out who it was.

i think it was TypeOne that did the modification on his stillen lip.

btw, homedepot has nice garden trims to do lips.

I added braces to mine but it still started drooping, finally added thick piece of aluminum that is bolted to the braces and held on with 3M tape covering the whole piece. So far it is holding up great.

I think you had the right idea but choose the wrong adhesive for the application. I used a 3/4 wide aluminum L channel with no support rods and 100% urethane glue. Its been holding fine for 2 months with no signs of droop or the aluminum becoming unbonded.

I used a 2-part epoxy & embedded the aluminum in it. Lasted about 6 months or so. I dunno. Maybe I need to rough it up more & try it again with some urethane glue.

Oh-I think I used the term lip in my search & it took me somewhere else. My apologizes to Stillen for not being able to find their crappy product.

Looked at mine again and the added downforce has now pulled it down enough that it upper part no longer sits flush against the bumper except in the corners. If it wasn't for the tape, there would be a gap in the center. And mine is thru-bolted with like 8 ss nuts / bolts / fender washers. Guess it's going to have to come off until I figure out a way to brace it.

Not sure what you used to brace it, but don't use a piece of flat strap. Use something with an L shape or a U-channel so that you have vertical stiffness. Shouldn't take much.

It was flat stock, but it was pretty stiff. I didn't want a leg protruding down to (a) catch a curb, or (b) have aero pressure on it. Even with a 24" long piece of 1 x 1 L-angle, you're getting like 24 sq. in. of aero resistance on it, which would be a lot of pressure. About like holding your hand out the window @ 65 mph.

It worked fine all summer, in 100+ degree temps, but fell off in the fall. Was hoping it would be ok without it. I didn't have any issues until it got to about 90 this summer.

There is enough of a lip on the front of the splitter that you could do a 1/2" hat stiffener and not hang below the front of the lip. I'm probably going to do this soon and will post results.

Any pics of your setup? I am considering getting this lip in the next month and would like to prevent it from sagging without the support rods.
